Heritage Classic Half Eagle Sale

Right now Heritage has 146 (!) Classic Head Half Eagles for sale. Anyone know the story on these?

Anyone know why the pictures look like so horrible & blurry?

There are almost as many classic head quarter eagles, too. I would also be interested in hearing what is going on. It's amazing to see so many in one place at the same time.

I noted this in a post last week but drew no responses. If you look at the $10 indians you will see a similar situation with the '08 w/m. Someone is cashing in a hoard but no one seems to be talking about it. The classic half sale is huge, this is like a years supply of classic halves in one auction, maybe more than a years worth. I also noticed that the asked prices are a bit more than previous sales because I just received my first classic half coin from a successful bid and was very suprised at the prices for these coins. Not sure what to make of all this but somebody is definitely dumping a hoard.

Edited to add: Maybe Laura S. knows?

    Yikes!

Only 1 early quarter eagle, 3 early half eagles, zero early eagles.

The hoard is huge, and no easy 1834 dates. It represents over 10% of the NGC pops for AU in many cases. It will be interesting to see if they auction these, or put "make an offer" on them, as they are hardly flying off the shelf with their full pricing. Many look "conserved". Nothing I am interested in, except for some interesting die states when they loosen up the prices. They must not like PCGS grading on theseimage

I saw two cases at a dealer's table at FUN filled completely with NGC-graded classic head quarter and half eagles. Most looked processed, but I admittedly did not look closely. My guess is that these are the same. A well-managed promotion gone awry?

I was going to post this the other day, thanks Artist. I was very surprised to see the # of coins and (of course) not many "better" dates.

Seems to be a trend. If you find an original classic head QE--buy it on the spot. This series tends to be crustless and clean.image
