<< <i>Is it ok to say in your listing that PayPal is accepted but not encouraged? >>
Sure, but it won't work. If you're going to accept paypal, you're going to get paypal'd. Might as well not seem grumpy about it >>
Wrong-o. I put that in my auctions and while I do get PayPal payments, I also get sympathetic "down with The Man™" notes from buyers who are more than happy to send me a check or money order.
It's okay to charge extra. Just don't say you're charging extra and it's okay. Repeat after me,
Don't say no to Paypal. Don't say you're charging extra...Don't say no to Paypal. Don't say you're charging extra...
Start your auction with the Paypal fee built into the estimated final price. It works like a charm unless you engage in shilling practices designed to defraud ebay which wasn't born yesterday.

Hard to charge extra on e-bay, but in real life you say you have a cash discount built into the prices. If someone wants to use a credit card, then you can add your upcharge (I charge 2.5%).
I do this at shows all the time. Everyone understands that margins are tight in coins. I explain it as follows: I sell at very competitive prices, so adding 2.5% is still below what others charge for similar items, and I don't feel right having my cash customers subsidize my credit card customers. I've NEVER had anyone walk away or complain when it's positioned that way.
On my website, if someone pays the listed price, then I have my margin built in...no problem. At shows the prices are a little more competitive.

I guess my question would be would Paypal agree with this courtesy? I ask because I have no doubt everybody wants to do the right thing and go by the rules Paypal has.

Yep, I've had 3 BIN buys in the last day and all paid by PP before I even saw the sale. --Jerry
