Who in their right mind would ever bid on this?

Stinky Ebay Linky

Poor scans of a raw coin, with a pair of loose PCGS and NGC labels. Sure, I trust it.... not.

You may have reacted too quickly here.

I agree with your initial assesment but if you check his feedback (over 600 positives, 1 neg in the last year) you'll see many poor quality scanned images with delighted buyers comments. He's just not a good imager but I wouldn't hesitate to bid, based on good feedback.

Or do you see something else I don't...?

No Laurent, no need for a neg, but I understand Doug's reaction. Cannon was the seller of a super pretty 1833-A toned 5 drachmai, NGC MS63 but probably a specimen,in the summer of 2005. I got it at a no reserve aucvtion, a $3700 coin, and he took one month to ship it. This 5 francs comes from the same collection from a certain museum, and if I recall correctly he even considered it a proof when he first listed it, hence his attempt to slab it at both companies, I think the coin is now in a PCGS holder. Good coin, fair to high price, terrible scan.Possible torturous shipping time if you bid.You have been warned.

I saw a wonderful Napoleon Bonaparte 5 francs at Louis Teller's table in NYINC, a specialist in crowns, very colorful, undergraded at MS61 by NGC, but thank god I don't collect these (yet), otherwise I would have been in serious trouble. I opted for a Mohamed V Egyptian NGC MS66 silver crown instead, probably a specimen too. image

I have never had a problem with David in the many eBay auctions I have won.

In our email conversations he has stated that he suffers bouts of vertigo which is something my wife also has battles with (including the last 3 days image ). This may account for some mailing delays, but I do not know the particulars.
