help me identify this coin (france circ. 1285 -1314?)

I found another old timer that I couldn't pass on at a coin show on long island this morning

What would it be classified as? The label on the flip said France 1285-1314.

I believe it's a Gros Tournois from Philip IV. It should be around 25mm.
  • thanks I'll measure it to confirm my size.
I will store it in a different drawer than my Henry V groat lest a war break out twixt the two.

No problem and good luck keeping the peace.
  • I have a friend that runs an art shop. I showed him the coin and he showed me some old catalouges in his shop. First one I looked at had this (item 91):

you definitly got the coin's ID right.

The catalouge was : The Parthian - classic numismatics mailed to him in Jan of 1984

he has at least 30 such catalouges that he said I could photo copy for my reference.
