NY International Report Friday

Well, I made it in while the doorman at the Waldorf was on break...
This was the first one at the Waldorf I have attended. I thought there was a decent crowd but I have no point of reference for this show. I made a submission to PCGS... should be interesting.
I saw the new slab for the CGS UK and several British coins that were graded with their 100 point scale. The slab is clear and has prongs so the rim is exposed... it is an interesting design. I think it needs to be seen to be appreciated. Having the ability to see the rims for British coins has its obvious advantages. I think it will be interesting to see how a 100 point scale works "across the pond" as well as among British collectors here.
I did not come away with as many purchases as I thought I would, but I did manage to buy the updated Freeman book that came out last year and I have an order in for the Dunigan 8R Cap & Rays book. I talked briefly with Mr. Dunigan and his knowledge of this series is most impressive.
I was fortunate to attend lunch with fellow darksiders and we exchanged stories, thoughts about the new TPG, Canadian tokens and varieties of various sorts... quite entertaining and the highlight of the show. I did see Civitas very briefly... he seemed to be doing well and busy as ever.
I did see the Wesphalia Notgeld 1 Billion coin... I probably should have bought it as it seems to be rarely offered. There were many rarities there including some terrific Italian, German States and British material... didn't see as much Canadian on the bourse as anticpated. I did look twice at a 1687 Crown that was graded MS82 by CGS UK... It was the finest example of a James II Crown I have seen.
I did not view the auction lots because I was not able to stay. I will not comment on the CNG auction as it is already the subject of another thread. I thought it was easy to underestimate the amount of time one could spend here because it was crowded and there was truly alot to look at. It was well worth attending...highly recommended.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

Sounds like a good show; maybe I can sneek in one year.
Thanks for the report!
Much appreciated by those of us several thousand miles away.
Nice report Bob, and very happy to have met you.
