Board Members. A serious question. Don't get mad.

There is a 1970 Topps box for sale an e-bay. I have 2 questions.

#1. Do you think this auctions is legit?
#2. Are there any members of the board that would be interested in ripping it if this is legit?

I'm not 100% confident that these are unopened, but if there is some interest, I will give the guy a call.

Please don't chew me out for posting this.

Here is the link.

They would never get mad at you or chew you out. They would simply make this message go PUFF as they have done many times before. The thought police never sleep . If the GODS are unhappy with your message , they will again simply put it in the cornfield and treat it as if it never existed. Anger never.

BUT...anyone who runs one of these misleading type auctions..welll..just plain S*CK in my eyes:
auction for a 1970 wax box..OH WAIT..a magazine with this box in it!!

This is right from his feedback file...

If it were me...I wouldn't pay anything w/o seeing it in hand....you're only asking for trouble with anything less.

If you decide to do it.....use your credit card...atleast if it's bad...you MIGHT have a leg to stand on!!

Both auctions that are linked to , originate from the same loction Valley Stream NY. Doesn't take Paypal. I'd look real hard before I'd leap.

Good point. Nobody who's trying to peddle auction catalogs also happens to have a horde of 36 year old wax in the basement. You only do dumb stuff like try and sell Legacy catalogs on Ebay if you're almost broke and desperate for bread; in which case the 1970 wax box would have been sold loooongg ago.
  • Calaban, I need that FEB. SMR if you still have it. Let me know.
  • Well, I was hoping that a few people on the board would say that this seller was great and super reliable, but I really expected the response that has been given up to this point. I appreciate your input and I am going to stay away. If anybody else has any input that they feel is necessary, let it be heard.

This guy listed this 1970 box a while back...bidding reached $4,800 but the reserve was not met. This seller also sold the Leagacy auction catalog (where this box presumedly came from) for $40 some time ago, too, and that auction pictured this same box, too. Did he buy the 1970 box in the same photo he used to sell the auction catalog? Is he simply flipping the box in that case? Not sure what to think in this case.

i have no clue if it's real or not i certainly would not buy it or go in on it but if you are scamming then why waste money on a reserve listing. seems like if you are crooked you take what you can get and run.

    He takes credit cards.

BUT, a chargeback might be easy to defeat, if he claimed the
packs were opened by the buyer.

I dunno 4-sure if it's legit, but I'd steer clear.

BBCE is currently the ONE that I have FULL confidence in.

i believe the 1970 set still came out in series. not everyone of those players he hypes could be in that box. if someone contacts him try to find which series it is.

Much like raw cards there is probably a reason this hasn't been authenticated by someone.

I would like to see the back of these packs where they are sealed. If there are any brown spots, definately stay away. If not, then they should be authenticated and again probably stay away.

I do find it a bit strange that he does not state what series the box is from. In 1970, Topps released 7 series of packs, and I'd find it hard to believe that an owner of a box this rare did not know what series the packs were from. Even if Legacy did not stipulate what series this box is from (which I'd find very unusual), it wouldn't be hard to see a card behind the wrapper to determine what series the packs should be from.
