Colts/Ravens game thread

Okay, I'll start complaining as the resident Colt fan.

Manning throws a pass, Wayne gets grabbed, held, and molested, the ref throws a flag, and the call is.......

Not enough for a pass interference.

WTF???? Why throw the flag??? The announcers were shocked as well. What a bunch of BS.

Okay, back to the game. I'm so nervous I could vomit.

Not a Colt fan but looked like interference. I've seen less called.
  • Quite a match up.

This will get interesting in the second half.
  • The Zebras suck. That's why we have replay.
  • What a kick! 51 yards bounces it in , Vinitiari is so clutch...

Ravens look lousy. Maybe the AFC isn't as strong as most people thought. For a #2 seed, that was a pitiful half of football.

Can anyone make Indy's defense look like Indy's defense again? They've looked like the 1985 Bears for the firsst game and a half of the playoffs.

The Colts have lost the mo!!

I'm still sick to my stomach.

Manning now has two picks, if it wasn't for Ray Lewis tipping passes, he'd have four.

    Yuk!!

Don't look now, but this Colts team may wind up sneaking into the Super Bowl. Unlike last year, no one expected them to breeze through the playoffs this year, but they've done everything right so far and having Vinatieri as your kicker is like having money in the bank.

Pretty odd game when the MVP is (or should be) a placekicker.

Was that Herm Edwards out there calling plays for the Ravens? It looked like they weren't even trying to score.

I guess Tony should know how to gameplan for Marty-ball if he gets the chance.

Being from Baltimore, I'm dissapointed. What a choke. I't still proof that the team that wanted it most , won it again. Great game for Indy.

I can't get over what their defense has done in the last two weeks.

Didn't hear much about Ray Lewis in this game except when he was breaking up...interceptions.

    I'm breathing again......moving on.

I said in a thread a year ago, that with football being a team sport, the difference between Manning and Brady was Vinatieri. That's starting to hold water. What a stud!!! (That's right, I just called the kicker a stud!!! )))

Yet again, Adam Vinatieri kicks his team to victory. Now why can't the Pats get players like that. Oh wait. Nevermind............................image

The best game this year is going to be the AFC Championship game instead of the Superbowl. Can you imagine what the media coverage is going to be like if the Saints make it to the Superbowl? We'll have to listen to countless heatwarming news reports by Bryant Gumble of overcoming tragedy and personal struggles to rise up and ...... blah, blah, blah. I can't wait for the tears to start flowing.

Ya know, that's REALLY NOT amusing. Come on down river and see for yourself just how devastated this City is this much later, to this very day.

Losing everything you own is NOT funny. Seeing tremendous Pain & Suffering and peoples' lives totally devastated is NOT at all amusing.

Death and Misery and waiting for help that NEVER comes is NOT funny. I pray it never happens to you.

I can't even believe you said that.

Reread my post. It had nothing to do with the city of New Orleans. It has to do with tearjerking news reporters who will try to connect the Saints with a natural disaster. The 2 are totally unrelated. I'm just saying that the 2 weeks before the Superbowl, the TV will be flooded with sappy music and exploited images of destruction everytime the game is mentioned. Many of those reporters won't even watch a football game.

You're right. Now that I've re-read it I see what you mean., sorta like the "Patriots" winning the 9-11 season.

Yeah......The difference between Manning and Brady is a kicker. I don't care how clutch he is(and he's one of the best I've ever seen) but do you HONESTLY believe that's the only difference? Manning might be Marino to Brady's Montana.

Do I honestly thick the difference is a kicker??? I could argue that while Vanderchoke was shanking potential game tying and game winning field goals, Vinateiri was hitting impossible ones in the snow to help the team move on. But no, I don't think that's the difference.

My point is the difference is the players around them, and I've said all along football is a team sport. And Brady's defense and special teams teammates have been infinately better than Mannings.

It's hard to believe you can HONESTLY say Brady is a better quarterback. Like they were saying on Mike & Mike this morning, he's had the better career. But if both were at a tryout, there is no doubt who's better physically. There are other intangibles, I know.

Let the record show, I'm not arguing that Brady isn't great. HE IS GREAT. I root for Manning and the Colts, but I don't dislike Brady (I hate the Patriots for obvious reasons). But most Brady fans seem to have a serious dislike for the talent of Manning.

When it's over, Brady will be a Hall of Famer and have his rings.

Manning will be a Hall of Famer, have every single passing record there is, and may or may not have any rings.

Time will tell. My point is they both need their teammates to play well to win. Manning has sucked in the postseason thus far, but the defense has finally stepped up.

Brady has sucked, too, and it just furthers my point.

If New England wins the Super Bowl this year, is Brady a better quarterback than Manning because Troy Brown saved the game by stripping the interception away??? Perhaps Manning has rings if Marvin Harrison could've stripped the ball away from Ty Law.

I know that's all stupid and hypothetical, and I know history judges quarterbacks by the number of rings they own, I just argue that it's not in REALITY a way to tell who is better.

    I think Manning is.

Shawn - I see your point, I really do. But, how can you say that Brady has had better teams around him?

Manning has had Marvin Harrison at WR (one of the best in the NFL) along with Reggie Wayne. Brady has had......?

Manning had Edgerrin James (again, one of the best NFL RB's) and he has Addai this year. Brady has had Corey Dillon, who is also a good back, but no one will argue he is better than James (or even Addai).

Better kicker? I'll give you that, but Vanderjagt was also a very good kicker - just not the money kicker Vinatieri is.

Brady is so good, because he takes the team given him, and makes even pedestrian WR's look great. He routinely throws passes to just about every eligible receiver - rarely favoring one. This weekend, Jabar Gaffney who had 11 catches all season, caught 11 passes in one game (and, he was acquired just before the season to replace Deion Branch. How did Branch do this weekend for Seattle? Not great).

ctsox, again, I'll argue for the fun of it. (Realizing there is probably no right answer and that they are both indeed fantastic.)

Marvin and Reggie are great, true. But that could be a product of Manning. You think if you throw David Carr in a Colts uniform that Marvin and Reggie are making the Pro Bowl?? Or are you arguing that Gaffney couldn't catch ten passes in a Colts uniform?? For crying out loud, Dallas Clark had 10 catches in a game a couple of weeks ago, that doesn't make him the best tight end ever. Brady spreads the ball around more than Manning (part of which is a product of the offense), but he's good enough to make some of the New England receivers he's had in the past have 10 TD seasons, they just don't do it that way.

As for Edgerrin. It should be obvious that a lot of Edgerrin's success was a product of defenses keying on Peyton, Marvin, and Reggie. Because he sure didn't look the same this year on a new team. He looked pedestrian at best. Now they have Addai, who's more than adequate, but I could run the football on that team. Dillon's been one of the best too. I'd compare his career numbers to Edgerrin's, and he's been on FAR, FAR worse teams that had defenses keying on him. And ironically, Lawrence Maroney is who the Colts wanted to draft, so it's not exactly like New England laid an egg with that pick. But when Edgerrin went out with an ACL tear, Dominic Rhodes stepped in and became the first 1000 yard undrafted back. It's more the Colts offense than Edgerrin. Edge should tell you that after this year.

And as far as kickers go, Vinateiri has been incredibly great, the edge goes to New England.

I know if the Colts don't win a Super Bowl, my argument won't hold a lot of water, that's just the way they are judged. But I've posted before and I'll say again, that doesn't really tell me who is better. Again, it's why Trent Dilfer and Doug Williams have Super Bowl rings and Dan Marino and Dan Fouts don't. If the argument between Brady and Manning always ends with Brady supporters saying "He has three rings, that's ALL that matters", that's one opinion. But if that's the only argument, I'd like to see someone stand with a straight face and tell me Trent Dilfer was a better quarterback than Dan Marino.

Salisbury was saying today on NFL Live that Sunday's game wouldn't define Manning's career. But I think if the Colts lose this one, either by poor play by the whole team or a bad game by Manning, it sure won't help it.

Come on, I'm a Colts fan and want this badly. You guys have three, let this one go you greedy bastiges!!image

You make good points, and I like Manning - this weekend represents a big opportunity for him to change a lot of the thinking on him and big games. Should be a great game!

I really think last nights game again proves my point. It really is a team game and one player can't do it by himself.

Reche Caldwell dropping that touchdown, while wide open in the end zone, was bad enough. The Patriots went on to score so that one can be forgiven.

But the one he dropped while NO ONE WAS COVERING HIM was costly. I don't think the Colts have the time to win that game if he catches the ball. He breaks one tackle and it's a touchdown, but if he just catches the ball, it's a first down and another three plus minutes off the clock, another chance to score, etc., etc. That was a game changer.

I've argued that I think Manning is the best quarterback in football, and while I realize Superbowls are how a quarterback is judged, I still don't think that's fair.

Brady lost last night because his team let him down big time. No fault of his.
