Pitchers and Catchers in 3 weeks...I cant wait for baseball!!!

yankeeno7yankeeno7 Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭
Thats right! We are only 3 weeks away from Pitchers and Catchers reporting for duty! I can't wait for this season! I expect the Yanks to make their best run for the title since 2000. I am especially curious to see what Clemens will do.

I also expect the Red Sox to be battling for the 3rd/4th spot image

What do you expect from your team?

  • Now that the Braves have been dethroned (1st time in 13 years), the Phillies have a chance for First with MVP Ryan Howard leading the way!!!!

I'm a Red Sox fan, I expect to be disappointed, it is in my blood. Did 2004 really happen, the DVDs say it did...

I can't wait to see if Gonzalez has the amount of success with the Marlins as Joe Girardi did. I sure hope so! image

Dude, I would see if they will let you change your CU name to metno7, because you guys are in for a long season. It's very telling that the Yankees season hopes depend on whether or not 44 year old Roger Clemens will pitch a half season for you or not. Otherwise, good luck with Pavano, Pettite and Igawa in your starting 5.

I have high expectations for 2007. Bring it on. image

Of course you have high expectations. You have swallowed whole the New England media hype machine.

The real question is when do I start my "THE OFFICAL PUT A FORK IN THE RED SOX" thread. Good luck with your 100 million dollar flop, Josh WAY OVER-RATED Beckett and the 100 year old Curt Schilling in your starting 5.

Ha! The only thing more rewarding than a Red Sox championship is watching Steinbrenner's blood boiling after another Yankee early exit from the playoffs.

I hope Dice can live up to the hype this year, I am 50/50 on him, I believe he can do well at first until batters get used to his stuff, the real test will be down the stretch. I like our chances this year (again)

    Bring on the AL EAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any word on JD Drew or is that still hanging? If not Drew, will the Bosox be stuck with a Bush Leaguer in right field?
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,656 ✭✭✭✭✭
Im a huge opponent of Drew being signed, last I heard there is question marks about his shoulder. I wish Drew well but I do not want that 70 Mill being spent on him.

Losing faith in Theo's decisions??? As far as being a Yankees fan goes, Im glad Cashman is calling the shots and not Steinbrenner!

Theo is still the Man, but everyone knows JD Drew is just like Lavar Arrington........He cannot stay healthy.

I love the sound of this - The defending World Series Champion St Louis Cardinals! image

If Pujols, Edmonds, and Rolen stay healthy, I don't worry about the lineup at all. I am concerned about the pitching staff. Carpenter is lights out, but from #2 on down are question marks. I think Anthony Reyes showed us what he can do in Game 1 of the World Series. He has the potential to be a special pitcher. Hopefully, he will be just that this year. I predict a Central Division Championship for the Cardinals and the second best record in the NL (second to the Mets). After that (as we saw in 2006), who knows!

They will announce the Drew signing soon - nothing to worry about. He's going to have to convince a lot of people in Boston that he's worth the money, but I have a feeling he will. The only area that concerns me is closer. There could still be a trade that brings someone from the outside in (like Cordero from the Nationals) but the Sox might go into spring training with a competition among several guys for the position. Papelbon has also said he would return to that role if the team asked him, but I hope they don't need to do that. He would rather start anyway, and with him in the rotation, the Sox have the best starting pitching in the league.

I dont think you will have anything to worry about with Anthony Reyes. He has really developed and just may end up one of the leagues top pitchers this year. But I understand your worries for the rest of the rotation.
Depending on the Mets starting rotation, I think they just may be the team to beat in the NL...them and the Dodgers.

Three weeks? What I've seen indicates pitchers and catchers are reporting starting on February 14.

I expect to see more action from Dayton Moore trading anyone over 28 for anyone under 28 and start calling up guys in the fall to get ready for 2008. Nothing like going into 07 and gearing up for 08.

NOPE!! Never had any!image I am not gonna rant on that one! I am excited too! Papi is back next month from DR and he is gonna be happy as ever. He finally sold his house to Julio Lugo, now he said he has money for funiture in his new house! I hope someone takes Beckett's head and bounces it off the dugout steps a few times. Maybe then he will LISTEN to the pitching coaches. BTW has anyone seen the SIZE of Matsusaka? He is one ENORMOUS Japanese dude! He was in the store the other day and NO he is NOT the same build as Pedro, but more like that size of Clemens. Although he did have cowboy boots on image Gotta say this will be a good year. To take a page out of the Yanks book...they should be more worried about Toronto than the red sox image

Absolutely right - the Yanks are going backwards, while they shed some deadwood. It will help them in a few years, but the short term might get ugly.

  • I'd like to think my Blue Jays have an outside shot at the wild card spot. I like our lineup - and yes, I think the Frank Thomas signing was a worthwhile one. I'm concerned about the starting rotation - Halladay, Burnett, Chacin, John Thomson AND one of Josh Towers, Casey Jansson, Dustin McGowan, and Shawn Marcum. Aside from Halladay and Burnett (when healthy), I don't think our starters will strike fear into any club. I also think not having Justin Speier in the pen to bridge the gap from starter to B.J. Ryan will hurt. Honestly, I think our wild card hopes rest on John Thomson. If he's the pitcher he was with Atlanta in 2004 (14-8, 3.72 ERA) then I think the Jays have a legitimate shot at the wild card. But that's a big if ...

Your bottom three may not strike fear but guys who can effectively eat up innings. I think you under estimate that Blue Jays pitching staff, especially if they stay healthy.

Isnt that a bit of an oxymoron, CT? Going backwards by shedding deadwood...seems to me that is an improvement? OK, I enjoyed having Sheffield in the lineup because that guy strikes fear into pitchers but last year it was proven how much the Yankees DON'T need him. Abreu is an incredible fit into that lineup.

For the Yankees, its all going to be about middle relief once again. And I certainly dont think you will have to wait a few years for our young pitchers to come up and make a difference! Be ready for some of it to be shown this season. No going out and finding a Shawn Chacon or Aaron Small for sure! I think you are *hoping* for the short term to be ugly, but dont count on it.
