Knute Rockne Autograph... can anybody help?

told a friend, who's looking for a rockne auto, that i would try & get some expert info from you guys...
values, availability, perhaps what to watch out for...
can anybody offer any information about knute rockne autographs?

Not my area of expertise, and I've never researched a Rockne auto. I would think that obviously the availability is pretty slim. I don't know if there has ever been a card with a Rockne auto, perhaps a 1 of 1 cut auto exists in some of the recent high end products??

I'm not an autograph collector, so I don't know how reliable the SMR is for pricing of autos. I know for cards it's just a guide, and actual eBay sales are often more reliable.

That being said, the SMR lists a Rockne auto on a 3 X 5 card at $800, and a Rockne auto on a photo or a letter at $2500.

Rockne autographs are extremely rare, and the foundation of any football autograph collection, therefore, be prepared to pay a high price. My suggestion is that if you don't want to buy an already authenticated cut or 3x5, look for a document or letter, which should be "relatively" easy to find since he was a coach and administrator. As an autograph collector I enjoyed finding letters or documents such as contracts to put in my collection because there is generally no doubt as to the authenticity, whereas trading cards, cuts and index cards are relatively easy to fake.
