In honor of Saberhagen making the Hall of Fame ballot this year, that would be quite the honor to me, I am starting the Bred Saberhagen (Not Really) Official PSA Thread, could a registry set for far away? (Of course it takes six months it seems to get a new one entered).
Bret Saberhagen was born April 13, 1964 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Saberhagen was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 19th round of the 1982 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut on April 4th, 1984. In 1985, Saberhagen, the ace of the Royals dugout, went 20-6 with a 2.87 ERA, leading the Royals to a World Series championship and entertaining fans with his "Saberhagen Shuffle." He was named MVP of the 1985 Series pitching two complete games, including a shutout in Game 7. He played with the Royals through 1991, New York Mets from 1992 to 1995, Colorado Rockies 1995 and Boston Red Sox 1997-1999, 2001. He pitched a no-hitter against the Chicago White Sox on August 26th, 1991. Other honors include: 1985 and 1989 Cy Young Award winner; All-Star member in 1987, 1990 and 1994; 1985 Babe Ruth Award winner; 1998 Tony Conigliaro Award winner; Inducted into the Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame in 2005.

It's wholly personal, but I recall a game he pitched on a Saturday afternoon at Shea on CBS against the Braves. He and Steve Avery went toe to toe with Steve coming out on top. Both were in fine form and it was quite a duel.
A good guy, a fine pitcher and some really nice cards.
I remember the 1985 postseason well Greg. Saberhagen won the Royals the World Series bringing them back from losing the first two games. I live in Kansas so I was always a big Royals fan…programmed as a kid, and Saberhagen was popular enough around Wichita, Kansas for us to have him in local commercials. (Now we get local commericals of Barry Sanders...or at times his family).
He was dominating for quite a little stretch there. And with a nice closer like Quisenberry the Royals had a nice bullpen. Saberhagen is the type of player most people don't care about or remember now which is why I was joking about only four replys.

<< <i>I love the batting glove worn in the '86 Topps card!! I remember doing that when I pitched in Babe Ruth League. >>
Eh, I remember doing that back in High School. However, the batting glove would usually become pretty smelly and crispy after a few months. That was the one piece of equipment that I had to replace every year due to wear.

<< <i>Nice card Shagrotn77. One sold recently on eBay for around $30 but I guess I am too cheap.

I have the Wichita Eagle-Beacon sports page that featured the match-up of the Royals and Cardinals from that year (I spent the first 18 years of my life in Wichita). They compared the line-ups, pitching, and coaching and gave who had the advantage.
