Royal Mint shipping charge to USA?

I went on the Royal Mint website to order the 2006 and 2007 uncirc. britannias. They show shipping costs of $9.95 to the US - it's $4.95 for the first item, and adding a second item bumps it up further. What gives? Is shipping on a per-item basis over there?

The 2007s are up now? Cool.

I think their shipping is based on the purchase amount, but I'm not certain.
  • I believe they have a branch in US and if you order from them s/h is $6.95. I don't know whether they increase shipping as you add items but I'll be placing an order soon too. They have the 2007 sets and sovereigns available.

I wonder if the proof 2006 brit. will disappear when the 2007 shows up. Id rather have the proof, even though it's farking expensive.

I inquired about the availability of the 2007 Brittanias about a week ago. They finally emailed me back and said they would be available in August 2007......

The proofs can often be had for less on the aftermarket. The Royal Mint wants what, something like $70 for one, one-ounce silver proof?

yep. I was going to search the bay or on the net for aftermarket before I bought. Id love to pickup a 07 proof set as well ! that stained glass rev looks NICE!!
  • Aren't the prices on the Royal Mint website kind of high?

No worse than what the US mint charges for some things ... tho' smoe of the proof sets are a real killer.

Anyway, try their US web site to see if the shipping costs are any better.

The issue prices I've seen are much higher relative to the US Mint. The silver proof Britannias are very high compared to ASEs. The "royal seal" set is also very expensive.

The other thing to consider is that it seems that many Royal Mint modern NCLT issues don't appreciate in value. There are some low mintage pieces that are selling for less than issue price several years out while something like the MS Jackie Robinson and MS LOC have shot up in value.

So the issue price is often times much higher for the Royal Mint and the issues don't tend to appreciate while you can easily double your money with certain US Mint issues and others do even better.
