Hi I'm new

Hello everyone, I am new here.
I haven't been collecting for a couple of years now and kind of missed the expansion on the card trading market. I collected mostly in 1993. I would like to start collecting again and have a few questions.
1)What is the state of the industry/market for new AND vintage cards
2)What is the state of the new products coming out in terms of value for
money.
3)Are grading companies still prominent and are graded cards still traded
heavily and sought after.
4)Have game used cards lost their appeal. It seems any card company can buy
a players bat and cut it up into 1000 pieces and put it on their cards over
the space of 3 years(and that is just 1 bat)<-----that probably sounds really obvious and dumb but I dont think it is appealing when after a players career he will have 10,000 bat cards circulating. bat cards of old/retired players may be a different story however.
5)What should I start collecting? Vintage or new? If new, boxes or singles or sets?
I hope the questions aren't too vague.
Danny

I'll give my opinion of #1. New cards market is strong. For baseball - Bowman Chrome & Heritage are always popular. Packs of other "high end" brands now run up to $100 apiece. Vintage is hot for pre-war, strong for 50's & 60's, and plentiful & popular for 70's. 80's & 90's are available unopenend everywhere - many for less than they cost in the year of issue. Grading has renewed or strengthened popularity across the board.

Whatever floats your boat. Start off with what you can afford, then keep on adding more - until your wife threatens to divorce you.
Then pull back - a bit.
How difficult would it be to collect an entire set(minus wagner) t206 in any grade raw or graded?
What are some other players that are very rare/hard to find, regardless of condition?
Thanks
Dan

We have a couple of t206 collectors on here that I'm sure can assist you.
I just recently completed my '55 set and to be honest, I don't want to know the total cost
if i were you i'd collect a set that i liked.

Collect what you like... year/ player/ team... It's your cards and money. My choice is:
Go Phillies
I think i like the vintage cards esp tobacco/cigarette issues. I have a small Don Bradman(Worlds best cricket player ever!) cigarette card collection and will start looking at old baseball cards.
From what I have gathered from your replies, I should develop a strategy(Year, set, graded/non graded). And there lies my problem. I dont really know what that strategy is. I am sure I will get a feel for something. I just bought 3 t206's and they look good but I just hope that I am not getting in too deep a water by not being able to complete the set(minus wagner).
