Results of my second PCGS Lincoln Wheat Bulk submission

Well, maybe lightning does strike twice because I made the minimum percentage on my second PCGS bulk submission of Wheats. A special thanks again to the forum members who were kind enough to share their PCGS Bulk experiences with me! I had been saving these dates for some time before risking the PCGS bulk "firing squad" and felt pretty confident in the coins before sending them. Here's my results:

1937-D 1c- (1) MS-66 Red
1948-D 1c - (13) MS-66 Red
1947-D 1c - (14) MS-66 Red
1955-S 1c - (13) MS-66 Red
1940-D 1c - (18) MS-66 Red
1944-D 1c -(1) MS-67 Red

Though it's not a high-priced date in MS-67, making the 44-D was cool as it's only the second MS-67 Red Lincoln I've made at PCGS. Props go to the PCGS Bulk dept for for allowing me to slide in 3 extra coins in my order (2 37-Ds and 1 44-D). Thanks PCGS BULK!

That's awesome for a bulk submission like that. You really have an eye for great Lincolns!!!

...and that's an understatement. Check out this 1963-P he made and sold to me a few months ago. This is one of my favorite memorials in my collection.

  • Am I missing something here? Nearly all of those 66RDs would maybe sell for $20-25. Barely a slabbing price. Except for the lone 67, I wouldn't be happy with all that work just to come out a little better than even. It's frustrating to know that a lot of those very same coins would probably have been slabbed 67s 5 years ago.

centmaster, you're missing 2 things, IMO.

First, there is a discount on bulk submissions, don't know the exactcost as I have you to send in bulk.
But let's say it was $15 a coin & say WheatFanatic sold each for $25 for a $10 profit per coin, and say he kept 1 of each for his set.
    Profit of $540.
    I've done worse.

Second is the thrill of making a nice grade, even if it is just 1 coin, it's still a nice felling.

    Congrats WF

  • I see your point, but the reality is it's very difficult to find a buyer for each 66RD at the cost of a submission, as PCGS lately is calling nearly all Lincolns of those dates 66RD (the low end coins as well as the formerly 67RDs), so you may sell the high end 66s at $25-30, but would be sitting on the others for a long time and would probably wind up selling them at a much lower price.
  • Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm not worried about selling all of these at once as I'm going to put some away for the 2009 100th anniversary of the the Lincoln and maybe they'll go up in value. If anyone wants a nice registry coin please let me know as I can pick out a nice one for you, excepting the 37-D and 44-D, which are going to my registry. Of this bunch, I only thought 2 were MS-67s, and one made it. The rest were solid MS-66s so I don't feel like I'm throwing away MS-67s into MS-66 Red holders.
