Just an update for all you 72 collectors who watched me spend the last 5 yrs or so finishing off that baby in 9/10...Im almost 15% of the way there in the 71s. Mark my words, it will be done, it may take me another 5 years, but it will be done.

AWSOME!!! That is a bit tough in 9/10
Anyone that finishes that set in a "9" deserves lifetime PSA membership, lifetime free submissions and some kind of metal of honor...

That's exactly the reason why all of us '71 members are rooting for you. As more people submit, lower grade PSA 8's will become more plentiful as well and we can add them to our sets.

i am no expert on the 1971 or 72 set. but looking at the numbers it is mixing apples with oranges. I did a little research on the difficulty of every set from 1960-72. the 1971 with it's high number of cards in the set mixed its low % of 9's and 10's out of all graded cards looks to be very tough. no one can say how much wax is left out there or how much nice ungraded raw is waiting to be sent to psa. i guess you could look for other respectable grading company's and get a few crossovers as well.
on a personal note i am a big collector of the 1966 set. these numbers concern me about that set. the lowest amount graded out of the 13 years. chronologically it is right in the middle is it that unpopular with collectors? (palmer and jenkins are the only top rookies) or is there a lot out there waiting to be graded? or perhaps is it more difficult to find gradeable stuff. PSA has been around long enough with the registry that i would guess that the percentage of nice stuff from all years has been graded on a consistent basis. i could not see someone sitting on a particular year of vintage quality raw but who knows.

good luck with your efforts
I think more cards are out there, they just need to be submitted. Just consider this: as of today, the population report lists 513 Nolan Ryan as the most submitted card by far; 1921 cards submitted. Of those, approximately 1000 are straight 7s or better (7 used as the measuring point for cards that should be graded in this issue). Now the number are not going to be the same on all cards and all series, but if 1000 Ryans can hit that plateau, it seems reasonable to assume that all other cards can increase their numbers across the board as well just because the numbers have not been submitted. Of course, there will be some toughies (i.e., 536 Claude Raymond comes to mind off hand), but I have to believe some quality cards still exist. Maybe as others have suggested paying strong prices for 9s and 10s will pull these other cards out of the woodwork. I would therefore not say the task is an impossible one.
Good luck and keep us posted. Again, sharing the basics of your game plan with us observers like myself would be interesting.
Do you have any '71 PSA 8's available? I have several
1971 PSA 9 cards and would consider downgrading if
an attractive offer was presented.

Anyhow, Id certainly entertain purchasing your 9s if ud sell them outright. I posted my email before, eolander@yahoo.com.
What is the game plan? Simple. I dont plan on buying raw and submitting, though maybe I'll change my mind on that...basically I dont have the time for that, I barely have the time to do this as it is, so I will be buying all graded. Now I know some of u will say that takes the fun out of it or Im just buying my way to the top, but it really doesnt matter to me. What matters to me is putting together the finest 71 set on the planet. If I need to buy some vending or wax later on so be it.
The money isnt an issue, Ive already overpaid for several low pops. But u dont get to 15% complete in 9 in a month or so by pinching pennies now do you?
