Yippie for me - finished a set.

Well, sort of.

My office just relocated from a small town 30 miles outside of Columbus (OH) into Columbus itself. Turns out there's a card shop right down the road. Nice one too. So I stopped in at lunch today (always have my "book" in the car) and went through his FIVE complete 72 football sets. Grabbed the last 22 commons I needed and the Butkis and Tarkenten and viola, the first two series are now complete in strict NM-MT+, centered grade. Phew, it only took 2-1/2 years. Some of them are such a bear to find centered, but I've got 'em all.

Now on to finishing the 3rd series. I already have 31 of 'em so I hope to finish them off by the end of the National.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

    Congrats - that's a tough set!

I'm not sure I'll ever complete the '72 set, even in low grade. I've got just a handfull of the high numbers - guess it would help if I gave the set some attention. Truth to tell, I'm so close on almost every other set from '69 through '80 that I just haven't looked at the '72 list much.

    Thanks fellas.

The name of the shop is Triple Play Sportscards I think. It is in Westerville. Right on State Street (SR 3), just south of downtown Westerville.

Remember, "nice one too" is a relative term. Nothing beats E-bay but I'll take a place with at least one book (many times 2-3) of most 60's/70's sets to pick through. Some decent signed balls, photos, jerzees, etc. too.

Sorry, scanner broke a few months ago and since I'm in "buying" mode, I just haven't needed one.

Guy was real fair. I think a quarter or forty cents a common or something like that. The Butkis books at 15 and he gave it to me for 8.
