This was a PCGS MS66FBL that I sent for downgrade review. As such, it is likely the finest MS65FBL 1950-D available today!

Amazing how much different a picture can make a coin look.
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.
  • Indeed! This coin does have probably the best luster I have ever seen on a Denver Frankie, at least Heritage got that right.

  • Well, you gotta wonder how it ever got into a 66 holder. That just blows my mind.
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.

  • Is not luster the biggest factor in grading mint state coins ?
Has this coin been sold ?

It seems to be...but sometimes I think that they get too liberal with the 65 and better grades with way too many hits on the coins. Especiallt in the prime focal areas.

That coin has more eye appeal than some/alot of 66s but way to many hits to make that grade.
  • agree ! somewhere , somehow PCGS drifted away from the "prime focal area " thing ...........

I saw three dates recently ; two 51-D , and 52-D Graded PCGS MS66fblb ; they were very colorfull -but had carnage on the cheek that 10 years ago would have knocked them out of MS65 !!!!!! They were expensive too ...... 3 to 5 grand !!!!!!!!!
