Great time to buy cards?

Generally speaking it seems that graded card prices realized on ebay are a little soft right now? I mainly purchase 1950's-1960's vintage, 1970's football, and some modern rookies. I've been bidding at prices lower than the lowest recent realized ebay prices and still win.

I just got a 1996 Topps Chrome Kobe PSA 9 for around $150. This card typically goes for $180-$200.

Is this a seasonal thing? Or are prices trending down in general?

  • actually, I think 1960 Topps is actually UP right now. prices since December have been higher than the previous 5 months or so. I don't have detailed tracking results .... but I've been losing out on auctions that I had previously won.

It could just be increased competition on that particular set, though.

When it comes to vintage, I really think the determining factor is the demand / # of active registry participants for a specific set.

  • For what I collect I have found a few deals. Broke X-Mas'ers ? I noticed I won a few cheap ones right after/before X-Mas. But fewer listings as well.

Everything I want is too expensive.

And I'm sure I'm not alone.
