Ripken, Gwynn and Gossage likely to be inducted

I've done my annual unofficial survey of sportswriters (those who have made their Hall of Fame ballot public in articles, etc). Based on projections, I'm forecasting (and this is hardly scientific) that Ripken, Gwynn, and Gossage will be announced as the Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2007 tomorrow. You can also expect a significant rise in vote totals for Lee Smith.

    What no Blyleven?
  • It looks like Bert will have to wait until next year.

I sure did loathe Lee Smith when he was playing in Boston.

You also don't think that Jim Rice is going in, either?

Jim Rice, and Ron Fairly, are patiently waiting home by their phones.

Ripken and Gwynn of course are mortal locks. Gossage should have been in by now - one of the best relief pitchers of all time.
  • MLB.com polled their 13 voting writers. All 13 had Ripken Goose and Gwynn on their ballots. 11 had Dawson. Rice and Lee Smith at 7 and Blyleven at 5
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

520 vote for the HOF induction. Way to small of a sample size, but I do believe this HOF class will be quite large.
    Collecting;
    Mark Mulder rookies
    Chipper Jones rookies
    Orlando Cabrera rookies
    Lawrence Taylor
    Sam Huff
    Lavar Arrington
    NY Giants
    NY Yankees
    NJ Nets
    NJ Devils
1950s-1960s Topps NY Giants Team cards

Looking for Topps rookies as well.

I agree that it is a small sample, it just surprised me that Goose and Dawson are suddenly looking like more than just blips on the HOF radar

About time the writers get a clue and induct Gossage and Blyleven along with Ripken and Gwynn.

  • Just Ripken and Gwynn ... Gossage (71.2 %).....
  • The Results Are In

I'm very very happy that McGwire got trashed in the voting image. I know some people won't take delight in this.

I really feel for Gossage. That's about as close as you can get without getting in. Hopefully, he'll get over the hump next year. I used to think Blyleven didn't belong in the Hall either, because of his less than stellar single season stats, but I must admit that dallas has successfully swayed my opinion of him, and I think he deserves to be a HOFer as well. Hell, if Sutter can get in, than Blyleven & Gossage both belong. Also I'm surprised that Morris doesn't get more votes. Not saying he should get in necessarily, but he had a great career and was money in the big game. That Game 7 10-inning shutout in the Series was one of the most impressive pitching performances ever, IMO.

The hall of fame officially means squat to me.

If the waste products who get a vote cant see how Gossage and Blyleven deserve induction than any choice they come up with means bupkus to me.
