A fellow forum member who specializes in $20 Gold Liberties suggested that I post the following MS-61 vs MS-60 image comparison to get some feedback from other forum members comparing the conditions of these 2 coins with similar grades (1 point apart)...

Please let us know what your thoughts are about these 2 coins. Thanks!!

Well, that was easy. The slab is cracked on the "60" and intact on the "61".

Kidding aside, I think that it is very hard to make the distinction on a photo, and frankly, if you resubmitted the "60" raw, I think you are more likely to get back a 58 or 61 than you are a 60. The "60" looks less lustrous in the photo, but the lighting looks different, too. I have nothing more to add. image

I guess the question is whether one likes his Libs scuffy or hairlined. I guess I'll take mine scuffy.

The 60 looks like it has more contact marks on the cheek/face. I think that can drop the grade.

I like both of them and think they can hold their own against average MS62s and even some MS63s but for me the tie goes to the 1873 due to brighter luster.

Hairlines included, the 1873 looks much nicer than the 1876-S.

The 1876-S looks more like a very solid AU-58 to me.
