English tobacco sets are a tougher sell here in the U.S. no matter what they contain. The other problem with English issued cards is that every person in the depression seemed to be smoking due to stress and War Time activities.....they ALL have huge hoards of these cards.
So it's a supply and demand thing. I lived in England for a short time..and every house I went in, I asked..ans they all seemed to have a box in the closet with these forms of cards. Over there, these sort of cards are in candy, tobacco, tea and everyone collects one form or another of them.
I agree..it's a great set...but SHHHHHHHHHHHHH when you see a good thing..keep it to yourself and stock up.....you keep alerting everyone to deals like that and you won't be able to find them for much longer!! lol
It's common practice for dealers to buy large lots out of England and sell the sets and singles at shows. The tend to move slowly...but the markups can be substantial.....
You want to blow your mind....search for "tobacco card lot" every couple of weeks!! You'll see lots of 200..500 even 1000 tobacco cards for England go up for sale...and they seldom bring crazy money like cards here. The smart (and QUIET) investor can make a killing....if you get my drift....
