An Amazing Set Registry Accomplishment

I have never seen it mentioned on this board but one of the most amazing set registry accomplishments is what Bill Bengen has accomplished in the non-sports area. A quick glance of his sets illustrates this--77 sets mostly from the 50s and 60s where he is number 1 and another 51 where he is number two.

Unlike sports collecting this accomplishment does not include team sets, player sets etc--just originally issued sets.

I am getting more into non-sports and just bought the TV Westerns and Spins and Needles sets in the Mastronet auction and am submitting a couple more raw sets to go along with the few I have so I was not aware of Bill's incredible collection.

Bill posts on Net54 and is very passionate about the hobby.

Congratulations Bill!!

Jim

  • Good Day,
And as impressive as his collection is, (And I can only dream of having 1 tenth of the sets he has), having had numerous dealings with him, he is a nice guy too...................!!!!!!!!!! And is helpfull and has educated me on several issues relating to the Non Sport collecting arena.

    A truly incredible accomplishment.

To clarify, it's not the long existing Net 54 vintage baseball board, but Tom Boblitt's newly created Net 54 non sport board.

Even though I don't know Bill, its always great to hear other truely praise someone else's accomplisments. I was raised with the believe that one should try your hardest or best in what ever we do , work or play. I have 5 sons and do not have the means to attempt this mans endevor, but its great to see none the less. The sets I have on the boards are hardly considered mountains , but the little hills that I sit on top of , are nice anyway. I love seeing others do their best.
Bill , wherever you are , keep up the great work. It gives the hobby a good name, which is something that can be used at anytime. Mr Davallilo ,Thanks for bringing this to the forefront. Your sets are awesome as well.

    Dav,

It is really hard to not run into Bill, Marty Q, or Mark F when building a Vintage NS set at some point. These three guys have amazing non-sport collections.

Some of their sets are what has drawn me more and more to this area.

    Congratulations on your pick up.

The NS arena doesn't get the attention that it deserves. I've been modestly collecting it for years - to include the original pen and ink artwork, card and wrapper proofs etc.

I did a review a long while back on the 88T Dinosaurs Attack set - unfortunately this set didn't take off but it does have the same "feel" as the Mars Attacks set.

Furthermore, although I like the pulp design of Mars Attacks and Dinosaurs and the classic 50s American design of the sets you speak of - there's something to be said about the British sets and most
impressive, the stunning printing design of the Germans.

Moreover, there's still plenty of unopened product still out there to excite the pack aficionado.

    Good luck.
