card collecting boredom

I am sure this is nothing new to many of you but being relatively new to this, I started getting bored going after sets only. So, I started going after HOFers in various years and bought a lot of cards from different eras and different card companies. Not only did it reinvigorate my interest in collecting, it was highly educational with respect to the various sets and all the different players from different eras. Honestly, set building is challenging and rewarding but it can be very painful and tedious at times. Anyway, it was a refreshing break and a heck of a lot of fun.

I am wondering how many different "phases" of collecting some of the more senior members have gone through over their many years of collecting. I would bet a lot.

Player set collecting is the most rewarding endevor I've undertaken in the hobby. There's nothing like learning the nuances of 300 sets to keep you interested.

The Collector’s Credo – the Stages of Grief

1 Denial – I’m not collecting too much stuff – why is my wife pissed.

    2. Anger – Why is my wife pissed! This stuff is a good investment!

    3. Bargaining - I made a deal with the devil – if I can just get this one card – I will not buy anything else on ebay for 12 years!

    4. Depression – ah what’s the difference – life’s short – ya can’t take it with ya. “They” can sell this stuff when I go for a pretty penny!

    5. Acceptance – OK dear – cut up the credit cards, lock down the computer, sign me up for Stone’s 9.5 Step Program.

The problem with boredom is - it leads to copious credit card transactions!
