2006 Bowman Heritage....complete garbage!

Well, I saw a blaster box in Wally World and thought, what the heck. Got home and ripped and how disappointing. They used the 1949 Bowman style. Gawdy colors, purposely bad photography, and FOIL cards! Yes, foil...not high tech quality like finest but FOIL! I did get an undesirable auto. The only good thing about it is that it was signed on the card and not a sticker.

Overall, I give the attractiveness of this set an F-.

Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Actually, in terms of the small size cards (identical to the original '49 dimensions), I kinda like them.

Actually, the minis are kind of neat. I dont mind the minis. The regular cards and the foils are just complete BLAH!

The foils are bad,but I guess topps had to feel tha they owed us some sort of parallel and those are the best you can do
without spending a lot of money. The photography IS really bad, I was wondering why, but if you say the 49 set was like
that, then that answers some questions.

Its too bad you didn't get a Jeter, Arod or a Mantle, those are NICE cards. If the auto is available for trade, let me know.

    Thanks

  • For the most part, I agree. A few cards look great, but most are out of focus or just plain murderous on the eyes. The foil cards are kitschy to the extreme... and not in a good way. The focus on the minis seems to be sharper... perhaps the smaller size also makes the background colors more tolerable. The minis are decent... not as awesome as the Allen & Ginter or Topps 206 minis... but easy enough to look at.

If you want autos and relics though, I suggest you keep buying those blasters / bonus boxes. In the three blasters I've opened, I've pulled four autos and three relics. Admittedly, in one of those instances, two of the relics were Brad Wilkerson bat cards collated together in the same pack. The collation on this stuff is terrible, albeit in a "good" way. Reading the Beckett Forums, loads of people seem to be pulling autos and relics beyond what the odds suggest, and the short prints have proven to be different than what Topps advertised.
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

I have to say I'm a little lost with this set. The SPs don't seem to be what Topps says. The variations are hard to distinguish unless you have the duplicates. It may be hard to complete a set if one doesn't know what the short prints are when buying. I do like the minis (like I liked the A&G minis). The foils are a bit silly. I bought somebody's hobby box break the other day off the Bay for $20 total.

I'll probably do the set, but begrudgingly.

I will buy a master set (425 card) on eBay when the prices come down a little bit more. Early on, guys were picking them up for a $350 BIN, but now there is one with a BIN of $129. If I can pick one up for around $100, I'll jump on it.

I learned my lesson the hard way with Allen & Ginter. The sets were selling so strongly early that I jumped on a master set for $225, only to find that a couple weeks later I could pick one up for a measly $75. Since I mostly like to compile a set by ripping & trading, I didn't have the patience to wait. After overpaying for the A&G, I'll definitly be patient with the '06 Bowman.

Oh yeah, my opinion on these '49 reprints is that they're pretty cool looking. With that said, nothing compares to Topps Heritage. Just sent off my deposit yesterday for my hobby case - can't wait!
