Help with identifying late 80's oddball sets

I purchased the sets a couple years ago to pull out the McGwires. They had all the stars of the early to late 80's, but I dont know what they are commonly referred as. I'm working on my McGwire checklist for my website and could use some help identifying the set names of the top 2 cards, the bottom card is there for a reference. The only other site that I know that has a pretty extensive McGwire checklist has them incorrect or too vague IMO. We both have the bottom card listed as "Baseball Stars #7". The card on the top with the same design he has listed as "Baseball's Stars #8" and the white bordered card listed as a "Cunningham White Border". I don't know where the "Cunningham" tag came from as the back is blank besides the star and the card #. And since the red bordered card on the top row has the exact same back just a different # as the white card, I would think that these 2 might be more closely related than the card on the bottom row with the same border. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I know about the term "Broders", I'm trying to go beyond that.

Hope I'm wrong but they appear to be from no name companies that produced them non-stop in the 90s.

We use to call them fake but in reality, they were real. Just made by unknown companies.

Sorry but like I said, hope I'm wrong.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • Thanks for your input. I know all about the unlicensed sets that were prevalent in the late 80's before MLB starting cracking down on them. These 'oddball' sets still usually have a name; either from what is printed on the back, or whoever produced them ie: Major League All Stars, Pacific cards and Comics, etc. I am pretty knowledgeable of all these sets that Mcgwire was in, its just these 2 elude me, and hope another player collector is more familiar with these issues than I am.

Back in the day, we used to call all of those unlicensed cards "Broders".

They are un licensed. Problem with that is they can print as many as they want any year they want.
If a 1995 card becomes hot they just print off 1 million more in 2007. Funny thing is, all the major card companies
printed off 20 million a year until they ran out of in in the early '90's. Not much difference.
