Putting my 65 Topps baseball set out to pasture.

Decided to retire my 65 Topps baseball set. It will be sold soon as well. Not sure in what avenue I will choose to do so. It was a fun ride, one that I would do again. I have no regrets.

the set rated 20th alltime is actually the 16th set as some sets are listed 2x.

    Good luck Steve,

I am relieved to not have to worry about you competing for a top 5 spot. Pls do not sell to an aggressive upgrader. If you break it up(best option for you imo I am of course interested in any 9s you have that I need.

That is a very nice set you have there. How long did it take you to put it together? Without looking for any specifics, will you be able to recoup your cost if you sell it off intact?

You have been pretty quiet on the sportscard board in the last several months....does this mean your future projects will be in the non-sports realm? Just curious.

It took me almost 3 years to complete. I put almost 18k into it. If I got back 75 to 80% of it I'd be happy. I had fun putting it together.

I have around 75 to 80 mint 9 cards and 1 gem mint 10 in it as well.

I have been fooling around with my coin sets as of late, I usually do that in the winter.

What i'd like to do is build a 66 set in ex/mnt raw with some of the proceeds.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Ah well, I am sure that it was a labour of love; one that gave you lots of pleasure, helped you establish friendships with other collectors, etc.

Pleased to hear that you will be continuing your sports card pursuits in the future.

Good luck with the sale of the set.

Say it ain't so Steve! You can't sell. You have become synonymous with that set... like mikeschmidt and his '55 Bowmans... check that, he's selling his signature set too!

I know Keith but what am I gonna do? I can't enjoy the set from where it sits under my dresser and bed.

many guys are getting holes in collections filled and that is a good thing.

I echo Keith's sentiments - seems I followed your '65 set chase from the beginning.
That being said - I wish you luck as well. I'm not sure how these sets do complete on Mastro; probably best to break it up with that many 8s and above.
So I guess it's just you and the martians.image

BTW, I'm doing a raw '66 set as well - given my druthers, I think it would have been a better idea to buy a complete set and upgrade instead of starting with a small lot and building from there. The high numbers are tough.

yeah, breaking it up myself is the way to go. I agree the hi numbered 66's are prolly tuffer then the 61's that everyone always seems to mention. 65 hi numbers are not scarce nor are the so called SP's The true tuffies in 65 are the mid series cards.
