Penguins to KC

Pitt. Penguins are looking for a new home and KC is just so happens to have a brand new empty one ready for later this year. Not much of a hockey fan but it would be nice to see somebody using the $276 million arena we are building. Are the Penguins moving a big deal? I really am uneducated in this sport.
KC Penguins?
KC Penguins?

The NHL is struggling somewhat with attendence, even in the traditonal hockey towns that have supported the league for a long time.
The NHL season is way too long and starts at least two months earlier than it should (who wants to watch hockey in October?)

This could kill most of my Pittsburgh in-laws. Penguins, Pirates and Steelers!
Actually the Penguins will be sorely missed and they could have the next great team in the NHL so it would be a very big loss.
And Michigan, although nearly every one of your posts is more doom and gloom about the NHL, the NHL is actually doing quite well in about 75% of the markets. Is it a big deal to anyone that Tampa Bay, Columbus and Florida don't haven any fans?--not to me, or anyone else I know. The traditional markets are all doing very well. Just because you can't sell out 41 home games doesn't mean it's not going well. The Canadiens for example have sold out something like their last 20 home games and I can't remember a time where you could buy a ticket in Toronto.
The only thing wrong with the NHL is my opinion is there is no team in Winnipeg or Quebec City.

The Penguins probably aren't going to go anywhere. They are using other cities as a hedge to get a new arena. Teams do it all the time. It would be a heck of a team to have in your city though, having Crosby and all. I would love to see them come to Cleveland.
<< <i>George Carlin is an idiot. Hockey is hands down the best sport to watch in person, IMO. Also, hicks could never afford the price of the tickets. Neither could most wrestling fans. Nascar fans probably could, but only about half of them. A hockey crowd is made up almost entirely of up-scale people. Unlike football which brings out all the beer belly, smelling, alcoholics.

Yeah....only upscale people go to watch hockey. George Carlin an idiot? He tells it like it is, and has made one helluva career out of it. Now, I'm a fan of hockey(NJ Devils) but come on, you go to the Continental Airlines Arena and trust me, it's not upscale and neither are the majority of people that attend. Just because hockey tickets are overpriced, you really think a fan who attends NASCAR can't afford it? Yeah...right. Same with us football fans. Hell I luck out b/c I did renovations to a kitchen of a guy who has season tix to the NY Giants, and I'm able to get tickets through him.

Most of my sporting events that I attended were in the Phoenix area so that's the only experience that I really have. Football games really bring out the drunks and the people who like to swear a lot. While not 100% upscale, a hockey event is much different. Baseball fans are also more civilized than football. I'm not saying 100% anything, just fans in general.
And besides, I've been to New Jersey. I didn't really meet anybody all that upscale. j/k. I went to Atlantic City and it was kinda dumpy.

My family is from NYC and Northern Jersey. Atlantic City, is just the dumps. Plain and simple. Jersey is trying to renovate AC, but we'll see how that goes. Oh I agree on the difference from attendees and fans, I'm neither. I refer to them humoursly as round-e-rounds. You said you're in the Phoenix area, right? Then there is good reason for the local football fans to be drunk and cursing. They have to watch the Cardinals. lol. Come on, it's the Cardinals.

As far as NHL struggling with attendance, I suppose a few teams are but others are thriving. The Avs recently recorded their 500th sellout in Colorado and had only played before just 15 non-capacity crowds in their previous 500 home games. The Canadiens have played something like 80 consecutive sellouts and the last game of the season will be 100 in-a-row. I'm sure Toronto has a very high percentage of sold tickets for every game too.
You have to remember, Hockey is everything to most Canadians. Hockey is bigger to Canadians than baseball (or any other sport you want to consider) is to Americans. They live and die this sport. They know what minor league teams the players played on and what city they are from. That would be similar to you knowing what college and high school your favorite basketball or football players played on for your favorite pro team.
