How does PSA prefer perforated cards?

Would they neg you if you carefully cut along the perfs with scissors? Or do they prefer the perfs to be torn apart neatly, with little fuzzies hanging off of each perf? Thanks!

  • I have heard both. For example the 81 Topps scratchoffs came with three seperate player cards on one card. I have seen and heard from board members who have cut them and received decent grades. I have also see 83 Fleer stamps submitted the same way and have not been accepted. What kind of cards are you referring to?

If the cards are perforated they have to be ripped not cut. I received an email reply from Carol regarding this very matter. If they are cut, they will be deemed "trimmed".

The thing you have to be very careful on with perforated cards is paper loss. They need to be ripped in such a manner as to avoid this. If you "lightly" score the perforations with a razor, than rip, you will do much better than just ripping.

I see, thanks guys! Actually it was just a theoretical, I don't have any perf'd cards at the moment - was trying to "think ahead" and if I had one I wanted to rip and submit, was thinking about the best way to do it. Appreciate the info!

Definately ripped out. One of the board members was taken behind the woodshed by neatly cutting the 1964 Topps fb stamps along the perforation lines. All 50 came back as evd of trimming.

I have several perforated cards in my Marino set and I equate the "little fuzzies hanging off" with a rough cut - both show that the card has been unaltered. As a matter of fact, I finally hit a PSA 10 on a perforated card (1989 SI for Kids Marino).

Thanks for the help! Tear-apart seems the way to go.
  • To minimize the leftover white fuzzies, only fold each perforation ONCE. The more you fold it back and forth, the more fuzzies you'll get. You'll want to somewhat hear the perforations tearing, but be careful not to hold the cards to tough and leave thumb prints.

You can fold once and gently seperate them to leave a nice card.

    Good luck!
