Regarding purchasing the Nolan Rookie...

Hello their fellow card collectors...as most of you know, I am soley at this point a Hockey card collecter
but I have been getting the vibe to start at least collectiing the heroes of my yesterdays in other sports....

What I need from you fine discerning chaps is how much a PSA 8 Nolan 68 Rookie should cost me....PSA 8 only
or the equivlelant raw if such raw cards exist any longer........I simply do not want to pay far over the cost yet
I do know this is quite a wonderfu and sought after card....I see one on sale right now on ebay with a starting
cost of 975 US........

Is that reasonble..........what on average does a Nolan rookie in PSA 8 go for these days...

Help out a fellow card collecting nut?

Thanks Lads

    I collect Baseball 1967-78.

That's about the SMR, and the Ryans are very consistent price-wise. Turning to the completed listings on the 'Bay, note that two PSA 7s went for 499/425 respectively. Also an 8OC went for $360 - the same as a 7OC (go figure).

I'd say that depending on the eye-appeal of the card and how much you want it, $975 seems a fair price to me.
  • I think $975 is a tad high. That one has very nice centering, which is a definate big plus...but the scan sucks so bad that you can't tell much more.

I agree that $975 is a tad high. Certainly not outrageous, but if you wait you find find a nice one even cheaper.

The price on Ryan Topps rookies has really fluctuated. The last 5 PSA 8's

    $942
    $1400
    $855
$657 - I doubt this sale is legit as the seller did not have PSA in the title and is no longer a registered user
    $2031 (a memory lane auction!!!!)

A BVG 8 landed at $1175 and an SGC 8.5 finished at $960 although it is too OC to have a shot at a 9.
  • Thanks Guys......this novice indeed appreciates all the info...their certainly is a lot of Nolan Rookies
for sale........Is it ever possible nowadays to pick up a high grade Raw example of his rookie???

    Thanks

High grade raw, most of the time, = trimmed. You can occasionally get lucky, but there's a lot more money to be made on a graded card versus a raw one, so you always have to be suspicious of a supposedly high grade card that is not in a legit holder.

I like Ryan, but I can't believe how expensive his cards are. He is certainly the Mickey Mantle of pitchers.
