Baseball HOF Autographs Registry Set

Well it looks like I'm going to add this set to my ever-growing list of collections. I'll never finish it but it will fun to pick up a card here or there. For those that have been following this set, how long does it typically take for PSA to add the most recent HOF inductees to the list? Another question, I noticed that Sutter (who was inducted last year) has already been added to the set but the Negro Leaguers who were also inducted last year aren't on the list yet. Any reasons why?
Any other discussions on this set would be welcome!

I was #3 on the registry, it looks like I'm still in the top 5. This set is a pain in the butt to complete. If your going to
attempt this set, stay away from cards that aren't real cards, and stay away from submitting items to PSA/DNA
alot of cards I've submitted to PSA/DNA were disapointments, meaning they wouldn't register to the set, I spent
alot of $$$ but it was a waste of money when the cards were rejected. Cards I got signed in person were also
rejected, just one headache after another. I've even had custom cards created, slabbed but won't register in the
registry because there isn't a grade assigned to them....and so on. Also note many of the great HOF negro league
stars can't be added because their signatures are impossible to find. So they have been ommited on the registry.
I stopped collecting and put my cards on ebay and took advantage of ebay's 15 cent listing day.
HOF Autographs PSA registered cards For sale!!!
I figured, I'd go back to collecting my t 206 set in all PSA 6's and 7's
I had a fun time with that set. If you need a card just make a reasonable offer.
Thanks
Jery
Actually, I've purchased 5 of your cards in the last week or so. It's given me a small jumpstart on the set and I'm still watching a few more. Can you elaborate on the PSA/DNA statement a bit more? Reason I ask is that I've got a few PSA/DNA slabbed major brand cards that I'd like to add to my set when I get it up and running. They aren't assigned a number grade, just labeled "Authentic". Is it not possible for these to be added?
Thanks,
Mike
Nice T206 set! Very impressive indeed!
Jery
The easy way is buy them already graded with an assigned grade and stay away from Authentic only grades.
may they bring you alot of joy as they did for me.
Jery
They will normally register to the set without a spec number problem, they look great (very high-quality artwork, and the large size permits a large, bold signature), and there is a wide group of players available.

I've always been a fan of the Perez Steeles, especially the Greatest Moments. The only issue I've had with them, trivial as it may sound, is their "bulkiness" and my storage concerns with them.
Jery-
I totally agree with you on the post-1998 recommendation. In an ideal world, I'd like to pick up some 1960's-1980's PSA/DNA signed regular issue cards but the post-1998 cards are certainly more cost effective. I've just found myself a little more picky when it comes to those cards. I try not to get any "sticker autographs" and try to look for cards that somewhat resemble the vintage issues.
Mike
I left out the Negro Leaguers because; there are no cards of them, and also it was a special selection process (not BBWAA or the veterans commitee). If you would like them included go ahead and ask Cosetta to add them. I don't mind as I'll never finish the set anyways.
PSA/DNA Authentic slabbed cards can be added as long as they are from a MLB liscensed product. If the card says "Trade Card" or "Postcard" at the top of the flip they will not be added to your set.
Enjoy
Larry
That certainly makes sense to leave out the inductees who don't have cards. Wonder if I should go ahead and email them to add Gwynn and Ripken since they'll be elected next week???
Even though there may not be any signed examples that still exist, the possibility should require that at least Ray Brown and Willard Brown, if not also Jose Mendez, Cristobal Torriente, Biz Mackey, Andy Cooper, and Pete Hill be added to the set.
If Bid McPhee can be in the set (AFAIK no autographs are known of him), they should be too.

Welcome to the set!
Although you will never complete it, there's a lot of fun to be had building the sort of set you like. If you have a look at mine, you'll see that I have been concentrating where possible on the 1961 Fleer set which was one of the first sets to consist of great stars from the past as opposed to current players. This provided great opportunities for autograph-collectors of the time to get cards signed by long-retired old-timers.
Jery’s words of warning are timely but I don’t think any of us have had as hard a time as he has. But I too have got burned on a couple of cards that came back marked as “Trade Card” because they were from an unlicensed issue and consequently no use for the Set Registry. It’s worthwhile checking the PSA Population Report before you buy an ungraded card to see if PSA have graded that issue before.
I had a correspondence with Cosetta in the past month in which we discussed the 17 inductees from last year. She said she would take a look at them again but I think we both agreed that until actual examples surface and are graded, there isn’t much point in adding them. However, with the current glut of cut-signature issues being produced, who’s to say that we won’t see some in the next few years?
In the coming weeks I hope to be selling some of my duplicates and would be happy to e-mail you to let you know when the auctions go live.
In the meantime, I’ll race you to add Ripken and Gwynn next week.
All best with your collection,
Jonathan

Let me know when you put your extras up for sale. I'm going to try and piece this set together slow and steady, maybe picking up 1-2 cards a month. Although thanks to Jery, I've already blown that strategy for this month.
Great info. It certainly seems like there is a fine line in determining who is included in the set and who is not. I certainly wouldn't want to be the one to make that decision.

This would be a really cool registry to checkout if everyone added pictures.
I e-mailed Cosetta at 2.03 ET with the good news.
So far they haven't been added to the Set Composition, but when they are, I'm standing by ready to go. I got my Gwynn auto in Jan '03 and my Ripken in September of the same year. Since then, they've been waiting patiently for the Call to the Hall.
All best,

I tried to add 11 cards to this registry and only one of them was accepted. I email customer service three days ago about getting the others entered and I have yet to hear back from them.
Try and add them again ... usually 1 working day after your first attempt, you can add cards that are new to the set.

As for the new "Hall of Fame Baseball (Any Medium)" my problem with it is that it still requires that the signature be graded a number. Or am I incorrect about it? I tried to create a set for it, and entered some perez-steele cards, but was denied. And I do not really want to have to enter a set in Collector's Showcase, because it will be difficult to keep track of all of the HOFs. Is is possible to add autographed Perez-Steele postcards/cards to the set? I just like the artwork on them so much more than regular cards.

I've been working on this set slowly for the last few years. I haven't registered it yet; it's mostly for my own enjoyment because completion is just about impossible. I've been trying to focus on the quality of the auto and the visual appeal of the card, and above all, no stickers!
What I don't understand, is why does PSA care one way or another if it's a trade card or postcard in the registry. Isn't the point of this set the autograph, and not the card that it's on? It almost seems to me that PSA is restricting this set so collectors are forced to pay the $20 fee. Is this a money grab?
Jery, I'm sorry to see that you're getting out of this set. You were the pioneer of it it in many ways.

Basically, what needs to be done, is the spec for the 2001 Greats Rice needs to be added to the list of acceptable cards for the HOF auto set. Its stupid, but to request that, you actually have to started the set, which means you need to have a card in your inventory that is already accepted into the set. I can help you with that, turn on your PM, then send me a message
