How does PSA come up with individual card's "Grade Weight"?

Do they do it on their own or is outside input accepted?

Also, is it true that the card's grade weight is supposed to be representative of what the card sells for in NM-MT 8 condition?

Thanks

Arthur

you are correct. however if you add a card to a set, mainly player sets, you can help with the weighting. it gets hard as many of the player set cards arent listed in the smr. so many arent weighted correctly. it is my opinon that for player sets, the cards should be weighted on both smr and rarity. RC's should be important but so should other hard to find cards.

A card is weighted due to its desirability within a set. A Star card will be worth more then a common. certain series within a set get higher weight too. 1957 it is the 4th series, other sets it can be the high numbers.

input has been taken from the general public.

as for the third question. yes, but only for set completion (rate), not value in dollars.

    Good for you.
