Hi Guys, Greats scan on this thread. How do you guys think the 1934 Goudeys stack up against the 33s? Also, do any of you collect the Sport King cards too? Neil
I just collect the 33's. I found that the selections for auction on ebay not not allow me to collect most of the set. The 33 sport kings are more available than the 34's but their cost turned me off.
Here is a card I got from Zardoz in his ebay listing back in January. It's a fantastic 5! It fits perfectly into my goal of an all PSA 5 set too. Just a handful of cards left to upgrade.

Your #126 moore should be there soon for your PSA 5 set. I see it will make you 100% graded!!! Wow nice Ruth!!!

Yes, thanks James. That #126 moore will complete my set on the PSA Registry. But I've still got work to do to upgrade the 4s. Plus, I actually no longer own the #53 Ruth PSA 3. I'll let it look like 100% for a day so I can feel good about it :-) ... and then delete the #53 from my registry.
Just wondering if these are worth grading and what grades can I expect?
hubbell 1/2 vaughan 4 (what would the punches decrease the grade to?)
tris 1? or authenic?
I do need these for my set. Just want to have some feedback whether I should use my free subs or wait till vintage special? I did not spend much for these, anyways. ($15, $10, & $3.50 respectfullly)
James, the way I would personally think about those whether to grade those cards is: are you keeping the cards for a long time with your set? If you are going to, then yes, go ahead. However, if you are going to upgrade them when you get a chance to, it means you'll have to sell those off...and when you do, the PSA holder probably won't bring anymore money (whether it be a PSA 1 or PSA Authentic) then selling them raw. Also, it shouldn't matter whether the grading is free or not...because you could always submit other cards using the free grading instead. If you used the free grading on these, then that means you'd have to pay for future cards that you could have used the free grading for.
With the #126 Joe Moore PSA 5 from James, my cmoking jr. set is now complete (thanks James). It has one PSA 3 (#53 Ruth) and a handful of PSA 4s (10 cards I think). The rest of the 229 cards are all PSA 5. I'm happy this set is complete, but now comes the true task. I'll be selling off all the PSA 4s and having holes in the set while I wait for the right PSA 5 to come along. The PSA 4s include both Gehrigs, the #1 Bengough and a few other HOFers, so it won't be easy. The only card I won't upgrade to a PSA 5 is the #106 Lajoie which I will happily keep the PSA 4 that I currently have.
In a day or two, I'll dismantle the non-PSA 5 cards from the set and it will go down to about 95% complete I think. But for the next couple of days, it'll happily stand at 100% complete.
Hi Guys, I won my first 1933 Goudey card last night. I have been looking and thinking about this set for weeks now. I did a massive study on the HOF content of this set versus other sets of this period and against the max. amount of HOF players that were playing during the 1933 season. I discovered that this is perhaps the most incredible set (based on HOF players) that I have ever seen. I can't say enough about the overall player content in what might seem to be a rather smaller set. I consider this to be one of the 5 best all baseball sets ever printed. The other sets in my humble opinion are the T206, T3 Turkey Reds, 1914 Cracker Jack and 1952 Topps (not necessary in that order). Each are great for one reason or many but the 1933 Goudey set is right up there with these other baseball heavyweights. I must say that one of the reasons I haven't gotten in any of these cards before is because this set scares me. I have collected and completed the monster 1972 Topps set and the beautiful 1956 Topps sets. I know what it takes to slowly build over years with a tight budget. This set is different. I'm concerned about starting this set and falling in love with the cards. I'm not sure if I am worthy enough of a collector to work or even dream of building such an historic set. I would love to do this set in PSA 4 with the big boys in PSA 3. I just don't know if I have the strength of heart to dream of completion of 5 or more years but never realize the goal. If anyone how collects this set would like to share their advice with me, I would be most grateful. However, if anyone would like to share some of their extras with me for a fair price - that would be awesome too. Please PM me or email me at nbdowney@msn.com with any advice or extras that you might have. Thanks for your time, Neil
Neil Nice pick up only 239 to go. The time flies in collecting this set. I started the set 6/05 with a #93 John Welsh PSA 3 for $8.50 from ebay. Now almost 2 years later I have all but the big guys with 93% of the set graded with most of the cards bought under $50. So, the cards are out there and you must be patience.
For better or worse, it is my opinion that the market on most graded Goudey cards is as low as it has been in a long time.
Cards in PSA 5/6/7 seem to be going at much lower prices than I've seen in the past. Too bad for me that I've almost completed my PSA 5 set, so I can't enjoy the buyer's market. T206 and other pre-war cards seem to be where the collectors are right now.
So for those of you building sets, gobble them up at these low prices!
P.S. No, I don't have any to sell, I'm not trying to pump the set. Just giving an opinion on the current pricing.
These are two of the toughest cards in the set in high grade. The 37 Jimmy Wilson PSA 7 in the past sold for $1200, $1425 and $900. This one was a bargain, relatively...and a nice 7 to boot (at least it looks like it from the scan). A couple of years ago, I traded my #37 PSA 7 to another collector for his 1933 Sports Kings Red Grange PSA 8 + his #37 PSA 6. That is not a typo! I can't tell you how happy I was to win the card after waiting two years for another 7 to come back to me, and for less than $800 is a bargain in my mind.
The 52 Cohen was not a steal relative to old prices, but it is a super tough card. It's a low number with low pops. Most 7 collectors should be happy with this card in a 6 because they ain't getting the 7 since the 8 collectors have to dip down to 7s to complete their set. Plus there are apparently some collectors of jewish baseball players, and they would be interested in Cohen too...so that increases the demand. Still, this is probably one of the few cases where the price currently has been about the same as it was in the past.
TODAY IS A DAY. I AM SELLING OFF MY SET IN ORDER TO START A NEW PRODJECT. I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING THIS SET FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS AND THE CARDS/ UPGRADES THAT I NEED ARE JUST OUT OF MY PRICE RANGE. SO I AM SELLING IT OFF ON EBAY STARTING TO NIGHT. YOU CAN CHECK OUT WHAT IS UP EACH DAY BY GOING TO EBAY (JAMESGOT) AND TO PSA 33 GOUDEY REGISTRY #22 (POORMANS) TO SEE WHAT I WILL HAVE FOR SALE. I WILL ALWAYS ACCEPT OFFERS FOR ANY ONE THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN. THANKS FOR THE RIDE. I WILL BE BACK TO RECOLLECT THIS SET IN THE FUTURE!!!!

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

how many "4's" do you have that I need?
I've been Jonesing for some Goudeys but alas more important things such as a family vacation and a new unplanned roof came first.
I picked up around 14 more tonite from our own Incugator on the b/s/t board.
