Another VAM question pitted reverse 1897 P

This coin does not fit the diagnostics of the only pitted 97 VAM I could find. Most of the pitting is found in STATES and above it with some between AMERICA and the denticles with the remaining showing up inside the N of ONE and to the west of it. Of course it has a neat die crack running from TATES OF thru the wing and to the left side of M and a couple more minor ones. Have you seen one like this before and would it get a VAM designation in your opinion? Thanks for you input.

I have not seen that one before... and the only 1897-P with reverse pitting I'm aware of has the pitting around the tailfeather tips and bow. For that reason your coin is interesting.

<< <i>I don't see this one listed in the price guides, but it's certainly worthy of a premium. >>
The coin lists are going to change over the next two years I am sure. Jeff's and Michael's original assessment that the variety collector's appetite could only encompass a list of 100 coins sure has changed. I am not so certain that the Top and Hot lists will remain terribly meaningful (except for registry sets) in the long run but did serve as a catalyst for the whole VAM collecting growth in general.

Whenever you have trouble attributing a coin, just post a big photo or two here. VAMing is all about sharing knowledge and helping out other poor afflicted souls.
