1867 SHIELD NICKEL??

There is an shield nickel up for auction with an unusual reverse. Can anyone attribute this?

Star pointing to D in UNITED is in the middle instead of the right. The star points to the right of T in STATES instead ogf the A. Does not point to the left of the T but to the right.

That poor coin. Talk about harshly cleaned.

There are different/mulitple reverse dies used on some dates in the shield nickel series. I wouldn't get overly excited about it, and certainly not for that particular coin.

Going by Howard's web site. This one is not a standard reverse die. Biut the coin looks like it might be fake. The obverse is here.

The coin appears to be a fake. Among other things, the date is too large and the numbers aren't properly formed.

Definitely a counterfeit, that's why the bids are so high. (A non-collector would really have a difficult time understanding this phenomenon!)

There's something funny about that date. The number 8 is really whacked out.

Could be counterfeit, but I don't know much about this series.
