High Shipping Charges on eBay - Attempt at Additional Profit?

$20 shipping? Should be FREE !

The nerve of some of those eBay sellers! image

  • It costs 99 cents per $1000 to insure registered mail. If he is including insurance in the shipping cost it would make sense. I do not collect these coins, so I do not know the value. Are they really worth $33,000?

    One these went for around $15000 this year in PF 70. You can usually get them cheaper when someone puts them up for auction with no reserve. But that doesn't happen much.

    At that price, I doubt the seller is trying to make "extra" profit. It cost me almost $20 to the 20th RP registered mail with insurance for $1500.

    I would hope if they can afford to spend $33995 for a coin, they can afford the $20.

    This is what bothers me:::

    YOU MUST EMAIL ME BEFORE BIDDING ON THIS ITEM TO DISCUSS PAYMENT ARRAINGMENTS. DGBOUNTYHUNTER@AOL.COM . I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL YOUR BID IF YOU DO NOT EMAIL ME BEFORE BIDDING.

    Sounds like he will bounce ebay right out of the deal, pay me on the side and we can close out ebays fees.

    Just my opinion.

    It does sound suspect, but maybe he's just trying to be extra careful with the arrangements. If I had $34,000 at stake, I wouldn't let just any yahoo pull the trigger and expect me to mail the coin. Lots of funny stuff could transpire.
    If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

    If I was trying to protect my money I would make sure all went thru ebay, emails and all.

    I doubt this coin will go for the asking price, as far as the shipping, it's $20 bucks, whats the big deal?

    IMO on a coin that someone's trying to sell for $34K, the seller should be able to afford to pick up the shipping cost.

  • I saw an auction recently that stated: "actual shipping charges, plus $5"

    PLUS five dollars?! Jeez. For his "troubles" I guess.
