Once deserted and hidden under volcanic ash and thick tropical jungle for hundreds of years, Borobudur has been completely restored and was officially opened by the President of Indonesia on 23 February 1983. The restoration took eight years to complete, and was funded by the Government of Indonesia, with an aid from the UNESCO and donations from 27 foreign governments as well as private citizens.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Indonesia’s architectural masterpiece, the Borobudur Commemorative Coin is expertly minted according to the highest quality standard in 999/- fine silver with selective gold plating. Depicting a panoramic view of Borobudur on the reverse, the meticulously crafted numismatic piece is endorsed by pt. taman wisata candi BOROBUDUR, PRAMBANAN DAN RATU BOKO / the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Indonesia.
