Disappointed w/ MJ Roop

I gave my parents (yes, I am 30 something....don't ask) the $15 coupon for PSA Collectors so they could get me a wooden preservation case for X-mas. They tried to call the toll free number on the coupon but it is no longer active. Well, they are afraid to purchase anything online....don't ask.

I decided to order the case myself Wednesday online only to find out I could not place the order. I email "sales" and their response was.... "Unfortunately, our inventories have been depleted as we close out the year. The only items still available are our Cherry Cases and Tallboy Trays."

Seems strange...an outdated phone number, no product in stock and a generic email response. Is it me or should they have provided with an estimated date I could order the product or offered to contact me when the product was in stock?

This was my first experience with MJR...is this common? Are there any good alternatives that you could recommend?

Thanks.

  • I have no first hand knowledge with this company.

However I do recall reading post on varioys website with items that you deascribed.

I always find it strange when a company does not want your business.

I think they have had their issues for a while now. I believe they moved, or are attempting to move, further facilitating their problems...

Their somewhat spotty customer service has elicited some grumbles here in the past.

I bought one of these boxes earlier in the year and while it took a little longer than I expected, I'm satisfied with it.

I bought a box from them a few weeks ago (the cheapest graded card holder box - holds 175 PSA cards). I went to the website to order it, and discovered they were out of stock. So I e-mailed them to notify me when they were back in stock. I got an e-mail basically saying "OK", but the notification e-mail never came. I just checked back a few times until they were back in stock.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • Thanks to everyone for the input...now I am having second thoughts about purchasing a case.

    Thanks!

I'm satisfied with the quality of the boxes and have never had any customer service issues. They've answered any and all e-mails that I've sent to them.

  • I ordered a wooden case from them a few months ago. They charged my card immediately and took a full month to ship it, but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary. I do like the case immensely. I'm sure someone with woodworking experience could make something similar. I'd end up cutting off a finger or a hand....

Judging from the look of the website and other people's experiences, it seems to me that MJ Roop is a small scale operation that's running too big for its britches. I had read all the threads before I placed my own order and simply resigned myself to "the case will come when it comes..."

Probably not the kind of customer sentiment most businesses would want to cultivate *grin*

  • I ordered a second archiver black boxes for my LT collection and the process went without a hitch. It arrived about two to three weeks after ordering it online. I've been satisfied with my two purchases.

    muchuckwagon...

I own 4 of the Roop archiver boxes (their cheaper series) and can speak with some experience about dealing with MJ Roop as well has an alternative for you. I had no problem getting the first 4 boxes a couple years ago, but ran into nothing but problems trying to get more. I too experienced the whole "we're out of stock" excuses... and the "we'll let you know when we have more in" solution. YUCK. I waited a couple of months before giving up. I now own 4 Oak storage cases from Pennzoni, and love'em! Pennnzoni Case They're cheaper than Roops, HOLD MORE CARDS, and are always in stock! Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth (2 cents.) I don't mind the 4 Roop boxes I have now, but I won't order anything more from them.

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!
