Town Farm?

I've found a spot here in New England that's just woods today but on maps from the 1870's thru the 1940's this site is shown as the "town farm". Anyone know if sites like this are productive? I'm thinking that maybe the town farm is where they put poor people to work so it's unlikely that there were a bunch of people dropping coins there over the years. Anyone know what a "town farm" was used for?

Could be a good place to hunt :-)

And just were would they put "what money"? In a jar? Under a rock? A bank...no.
I would look around.
