The Holy Grail of my collection....

Recently I was on Ebay and found a card that made my mouth drop. Some of you will probably think that I'm crazy, but who cares. It's my collection! image Here's the card and considering I collect both of these guys, well, wow! To have them both on the same card is amazing to me!!!

    Congratulations Guru

I don't have a holy grail - but one of the main pieces in my collection was my son's first 92F Rookie Sensation card he pulled from a cello pack.

There's no better feeling than you're having right now!

    Happy New Year

    Yet another Wrigley Field card!

Must have been taken at the '90 AS game.

Your ego would be big, too, if you were as good as Barry or Ken (or Tiger or Michael or Wayne or Wilt or Brett or any other "greatest ever" type athlete).

Congrats on your find.....although I primarily collect vintage football...my two favorite players are Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach...I would love to have cards with both of them on it. Since seeing your card, I think I am going to "investigate" and find some! Its nice to see someone who is thrilled with a card, even though its not "financially" valuable. Congrats!

Expensive, tough cards are fun - but then, so are cheapies with images/designs you really enjoy.

Good for you. I think a lot of the cards made in the 80's and early 90's are great. This is the time I collected and they have special meaning to me. It is great to see someone passionate about what they collect whether it is worth a dollar or a thousand dollars.

I enjoy the history of the game and try to express that in my collecting tastes. Even though many cards from the 80's and 90's aren't worth much doesn't mean I should not have them represented in my collection. Names like Puckett, Gwynn, Ripken, McGWIRE and Mattingly are forever connected to my childhood and a big part of my collection. To be honest, I have been buying a lot of 80's PSA 8's and 9's lately and have had as much fun as putting my 60's and 70's collection together.

  • Look at Bonds!!!!

Amazing what 13 years of juice filled needles will do for a physique.

Undoubtedly the biggest LOSER in sports.

Agreed completely. I haven't made the plunge, yet. I do find myself searching on eBay for these cards quite a bit, though:
    1981 Topps Traded Tim Raines
    1983 Topps Traded Darryl Strawberry
    1984 Toppps Traded Dwight Gooden

Someday I'll pull the trigger, but I want sharp, centered 9's (or maybe a 10 that doesn't get bid up).

Once you take the plunge, it is very easy to get hooked on these cards. Also, they are much lighter on the wallet than vintage cards. I think some of the 80's sets look great in PSA holders. I have a display case with the 30 best cards (in my opinion) from 1983 Topps displayed on my wall and they look great. The funny thing is I have cards that are more valuable dollar wise, but I like the look of having different eras on display.
  • Unlike others, I'm making a point to remember Bonds for who he once was.

Thats cool Guru. I am happy for you.

I know the feeling. When I find an Emmitt card I have been looking for it makes my day image

A guy shares a card with the rest of us that makes him happy and some here insult the player he likes?

I know Bonds is not respected anymore but some people do still like him.

Sometimes things are better left unsaid.
  • Congrats Guru! image

As a collector of Mike Greenwell I understand the excitement that comes along with finding a card you need (or want) that others wouldn't hesitate to toss in the waste basket. image

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Arthur--Mike Greenwell. My God that brings back memories. I remember when his 87's were selling like hotcakes....Out of curiosity, are there any Mike Greenwell NASCAR truck series cards out there?

And by the way, I'm the John Cerutti collector. Probably the only one out there.

Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12
