I like my morgans purple...

After the last one I bought locally, and loving the deep vibrant purple on the reverse, I've been keeping an eye out for other purple morgans.

I decided to pick up the one below. 1888, NGC MS65. Pictures belong to the seller, so it will be curious to see how colorful the toning really is in hand. I'm a little hinky about what's going on beneath "STATES" on the reverse though... image

I've seen breaks in toning that look like what is below states, and not be marks on the coin, so all may be OK. I like the looks of that coin. Thumbs up!

I saw a purple toned 1897 s pcgs prooflike morgan, and it had been BINed before I found it, I was so mad, but those are the breaks. If you can find 'em, keep 'em.

Very nice toning Russ, is it a 64?

Purple toning is tough to find and TPG's are usually reluctant to certify coins with vivid purple color. That piece isn't vivid, but it real nice!

I purchased a coin collection recently along with 15 or so Morgan dollars....They were
all in old paper envelopes and all were PURPLE-toned...Are the flips the main culprit?

Are there any other environmental factors that would turn silver these colors?

    Love the purple Morgans too.

I have one or two with some nice purple rim toning around here somewhere...
