How does Sportslots work ??

I just placed an order to finish my 70 Topps Football set on sportslots.com. Without knowing how it really works, I just went in and chose the cards I wanted from different sellers I guess and paid for them all through Paypal. Now, do i get one package from sportslots or about 15 different from all the different sellers?
I thought I would ask since I was thinking about completeting several sets this way.
And if anyone can recommend certain sellers from sportslots, that would help as well, I just went in and bought the cheapest in the condition i needed.
Any info and help appreciated, Thanks !

You get packages from each seller separately, I haven't bought there in a while so I'm not much good with seller IDs.

  • I just did the same to complete a few sets of mine last night - I've used Sportslots before, and never had a problem. I think it's a great way to finish off sets without resorting to paying 3.00 shipping on eBay for a 25 cent common...

Sportlots.com is a great site for set or team set collectors. The only problem I have is that they tape freakin' everything so be ready to your your knife! They put the card in a penny sleeve and top loader and tape the top loader tight. Then they sandwich cardboard and tape it up from every conceivable angle. Then they wrap the card up in the invoice and tape it shut. That's my only complaint!

However, I have used them A BUNCH!

You can also try the Beckett.com marketplace. I've picked up tons of cheap Will Clark singles there.
  • I have used the site a lot in the past and it is usually great. The only issue I have ever had is the same as buying raw off EBay. Overgraded.

  • If you buy from 5 different sellers are you paying 5 different shipping fees?
  • The Sportlots shipping fees are usually reasonable (often $1 or less for a few cards), even though you pay one fee for each seller. Some sellers send in regular envelopes in a toplader and some in bubble mailers, and some offer quantity discounts (usually 5-15% for a few dozen cards or more). I've had reasonable luck there, though cards are a little overgraded from the cheaper sellers, in my experience. Some sellers are great. If anyone wants an opinion on a specific seller, I have notes written down somewhere I can dig out on several of them... They generally follow eBay feedback rules, though - people with 99% rating or better are generally good, and sellers with 98% or less rating are often not worth risking anything on.

Sportlots or the seller will refund you if the cards are bad enough you need to complain. Sportlots pays the sellers every month or so, so they just hold back the refund $ and give you back credit. Overall, it is a good service for cheap cards in bulk, but most sellers don't include pictures of the cards, so you must buy blind, which is why I almost never buy a card for more than $3-4 there.
