Mathewson T202 - think this is worth resubmitting?

I bought this T202 Mathewson card raw about 4-5 years ago and submitted to PSA a few years back. I just looked at it again for the first time in a while, and thought this may have a chance at getting better than a 5. No creases at all along the triple fold lines, and the corners are really nice. I'm not a T202 expert so hoping some who may be can give some advice. Thoughts please if you think I can crack and re-submit to do better than a 5 on this?

Thanks!
Scott

I'm not sure about it getting a higher grade, but I'd send it back for PSA to reholder it in the correctly sized holder.

by requesting no qualifiers, i think 5 may be your max on this one. regardless, it's a nice card.

    Thanks,

Centering doesn't look to be good enough for a 6 (although everything else does). Nice card.

Thanks guys. I think I had requested no qualifiers if I remember right. It is annoying that the T202's submitted a while ago are not in the right size case - I've got a few of these which have slid around a bit.

I would just send it back to be reholdered. I have no experince with resubmitting, though I am sending some in this week. I dont think you can complain about a 5 on that card. Just think how you would feel if it came back a 4?!?!

I think the centering and the cut of the card will prevent a higher grade. It looks like it has the T202 uneven cut. The right side of Mathewson's portrait looks like it may have more border on the top right than the top left side. That is common for these cards but may keep you from pulling a higher grade. Of course on these cards, the grades depend a lot on the grader so you could get lucky.
  • Centering keeps this one from a six but it is beautifully off center with great eye appeal.

It's a 5 and could be called a high end 5. Very nice card. If you go to sell it, and present a decent scan with your description as noted, you're probably going to get close to 6 type of money anyway.

I'd resubmit that card in a New York minute. Centering is no worse than 80/20, which is the supposed cut-off, and the rest of the card looks brilliant. Of course, much depends on what the $$ difference is between a 5 and a 6, but if it's significant enough (say, equal to or greater than $200) then I would keep sending it in until it ends up a 6.

Boo could be right. I think though we would need to see a close up scan of all four corners to be more certain if you care to do that. Perhaps a closer scan of the edges as well. I might be wrong, but there might be some rubber band indentations on the edges which knocks down the grade.

Thanks for the feedback. No rubber band lines on the card, although the left fold has the slightest indentation at the bottom of the card where it would be folded (though it looks like it never was). The other mark that looks like a rubber band mark is a slight tobacco stain on the back.

I'm planning on keeping the card for now at least, so I may not crack and re-submit, but re-holdered so it won't slide around at all.
  • I don't know if it would upgrade or not , but I would certainly get it reholdered. It is a very nice looking card!

Definitely reholder, but don't worry too much about the grade. Really nice card!
