How big is the coin? If it's dollar size it's bogus. I get the impression it's half dime or dime sized, but there's nothing to compare it with in the picture.

Could this coin have been embedded in a circulated state as a decoration or inlay in a table or piece of jewelry with the reverse to the outside surface? The reverse would have been periodically bruised, scratched, and cleaned, while the obverse, next to either wood or metal would have been protected and progessively toned. Now it's been popped out of its "spot" and we see the difference in the 2 sides?
From the looks of the close up it looks like an 1805/4 overdate. It's damaged of course..and it looks like it sat in an album for much longer than it travelled in circulation. If the price was right I'd own it even with the scratches .
Some interesting thoughts as to what happened with this coin. I cannot say what happened before I got the coin. But I can tell you this coin did not look like this when I got it back in June. Lets just say it looked more like this.... (Photo Below) .. Label the coin what you want and label me what you want, but I have done nothing to the coin other than leave it on my desk sitting on an index card type paper.
So what does this tell us about toning??? Its pretty scary if you ask me. This coin is still the same problem coin is was when I first got it, so it sits on my desk like many other coins. Now the only difference is the other sit on white napkins, and this one is on a hard paper. AT? Many would say so... NT Many would say so... MA? Many would say so. So any thoughts now?

Other than that, I can't comment. My knowledge of Bust type coins sucks.

Negative BST: NONE!
Retoned obverse, probably in an album.
I like the image background.
Either whitewash the background quite a bit more or
Make a "halo" around the coins similar to Trueview, but make the halo white and fade into the background further away from the coin or
Convert the background image to greyscale.
<< <i>did they use 4 different font sizes for the date? >>
Yeah verily. What's with the date on that thing?

The date was the first thing that jumped out at me too,

This coin is proper sized for a half dollar.

maybe a O-108 or something like that
dipped and retoned (naturally) on one side
I think the wear on the rev and obv are similar they just look different because of the toning

they laid their cigar on the reverse and used a knife to cut the tips off of cigars. They'd then wipe the reverse with their fingers.
great coin, nets AG or so but has a priceless history.

<< <i>VERY cool coin. I really like album toning like this. Find a album to put it in that does not show the reverse. >>
Album tone eh??
