OT - so now that I've got this slick new computer....

....now I need some help moving old files and programs over. Is there some sort of "import" program that I can run? Or do I simply hook up a USB cable from one to the other? Most of the programs I run I've got the original CD software for, so that's not a huge deal. I'm most concerned with picture files (which I know I can burn onto a couple CDRs), Outlook Express email, and my iTunes library. I'm hoping not to have to go to the trouble of reburning all my music CDs.
Thanks in advance for your help!

As for your programs just install them on the new computer with the CDs you have.
Unhook the power and IDE ribbon (2 inches long). Plug the power and the IDE ribbon into the old hard drive. Power it up. Windows will plug and play the drive and you can copy away.
Of course do all of this with the power off and the cord pull out of the computer.

That is one of the best ways. Just copy the files you want.
I am not sure about outlook express though. I have never had good results & end up just copy or re emailing the important emails I need.
I try to reformat my hard drive atleast once per year. I figure I compile a ton of junk that I no longer want or need.
They do make software to asist backing up data. I know & own one ( GHOST by Symantec)

The {FDF1B437-A3EE-4043-825D-70C1D4B09A0E} is different on every computer.
The files under the Outlook Express folder need to be copied when Outlook Express is not open. Then on your new computer you will need to copy this files to the same location.
I know it is confusing but it will work
DATA can be easily copied using any of the methods described before this.
FavreFan, your tips on moving my email from Outlook Express was dead-on, thanks for the huge tip there.
