Any X-mas eve day disasters for anyone?

This was the first year that my wife and I hosted X-mas and our 2 week old Maytag stove died on me as I pre-heated the over to begin cooking.... Needless to say, it was an unmitiaged disater. On top of that, our 2 year old Maytag diswasher died on us last week and is out of commission until next week when the part was in. My wife and I just finished 3+ hours of washing dishes and my hands feel like old leather.....

At least the wine and champagne were good image

My 4 year old son received an electric race car set from my brother and his wife. While we were assembling the tracks for him, he couldn't wait and decide to race the cars on the floor. These cars have a steel spike on the bottom meant to keep the cars on the tracks. He racked them all across the WOOD VARNISHED floor of our living room. Sigh image
  • My scanner crashed today of all days!

On a good note, my wife is home for Christmas after suffering a stroke on December 15th, she was discharged yesterday.

roastedcat: Glad that your family can be home for the holidays. And hope all goes well.

We just got home from midnight mass, and while we were leaving my mother in law fell outside.
She is 82, and a fall is something she doesn't need. At least she fell on the grass and not the
concreat. This will probably turn out to be an interesting day.

    Wow...

Sorry to hear about all these mishaps!

I wish all of you the best and that you have a good day tomorrow!

All's good here at my house - we're going to Austin tomorrow for a few hours to visit my wife's parents; I really don't like driving on I-35!

    Merry Christmas

My Grandma of 94 was running a 102 fever so her "home" said she should go to the hospital. Turns out she has pneumonia. They have her on an IV drip with anitbiotics and my folks were with her all night. I was with my new in-laws and didn't want to make an issue of it, but they kept asking my wife why I was going outside and she said "He's in the super bowl for fantasy football." If she ever lies to me I'm screwed. I didn't even tell her to say that!

Meanwhile, my grandmother has used up 6 of her nine lives, I have some amazing stories of this woman. The doctors think she will be OK and I can vistit her tomorrow and then spend the rest of the day with my folks. Grandma needs to get through this as her first great-grandson is due in March, my sister's first child.

I work at a hospital midnight shift...in fact, I am there as I type this. What a night! It's been absolutely insane. Just the night that is normally nice and quiet, we get slammed. To top it off, we have a "fill in" doctor who is completely incompetant. Patients and their families are screaming and complaining...many for justified reasons. And then some who just think an ER is like McDonalds with a miracle cure. I hate wishing time away but this is one night I will be happy when it's over!

My fiance and I returned from her families to find the toilets at our apartment not working and our shower filled 4 inches deep with sewage. Its 4:46 AM as I type this, the apartment smells like a dirty old hookers nether region, we have been arguing with the landlord while waiting for cesspool co. to get their hides here and fix it, and on top of it all I opened my secret santa package only to find I got the big time shaftaroo. Apparently my " gift giver " misunderstood what a $25 gift meant and decided to send me literally less than $5 worth of cards.

    Merry Christmas !

Rough times indeed - My sincere wishes that everyone's day improves (like George Bailey's did in my 1,098th viewing of IAWL last night).

ps. Love the coupling of the two words "unmitigated disaster"...

I am sorry to hear the terrible news. What I want to know is how do you know what a dirty old hookers nether region smells like? image And don't tell your wife you know that it smells like that, she might wonder the same thing.image

I hope it you have a better New Year!! Merry Christmas!!

Oh, and by the way my wife backed out of the garage this a.m. and smashed up the front and side of my Dad's car plus bashed in her card. Oh the holidays...

On a positive note, it was our first X-mas w/ our daughter. We bought her a little tikes car and has been sitting in it for 3 straight hours...

Dang, I feel grateful nothing annoying came my way. Hope this day is going better for you all.
  • My wife's brother lives just outside of Denver and couldn't get out this year to celebrate Christmas because of the airport closing for 48 hours. He tried 3-4 times to hop a flight and was turned back each time
