OT-Lightside question

I know I should ask this question in the Lightside Forum, but they are not as kind as the folks in here. I got a bunch of "GASP" lightside slabs in my store the other day and some of the 2006 nickels are graded by NGC as "2006 D SMS 5C" "MS68". What does the "SMS" stand for? I know that in the 1960s the Mint issued Special Mint Sets. Is this the same type of animal? Also, how can you tell a Reverse Satin Finish from a regular reverse? Any answers that don't involve too much derision will be greatly appreciated
