thanks Stacks Rarities for the fun catalogs

for the beautiful catalogs for the upcoming fun sales. They did a great job putting these catalogs together, and that 1913 Liberty sure looks purty!

both catalogs are exceptional. The ana gold catalog is very interesting...but how come the ana is selling stuff? They hurting for cash?

The ANA isn't. The ANS (American Numismatic Society) is selling off duplications from their collection.

Latest I have heard is they are not hurting for cash but they are selling them because they have better examples. If I was a donor
of some of these coins I would not be happy about this even though they say the money raised will be used to augment the
collection in this area. The ANS not too long ago sold their collection of European medals and orders and that rankled a few people
(I remember reading an editorial about it.)
i would wonder if there was any effort to contact the donors(heirs) to discuss things prior to the sale or if something was understood at the time the donation. while the ANS would surely have the right to do as they pleased with aything they received in the form of a donation, since they technically own it, if i were a future donor i might think twice if i knew my "gift" was being sold at some later time.
there looks to be some nice items in the sale but others looked as though they were dumping lower grade items.
