I got a very nice email from Stack's yesterday which contained their annual holiday e-card. In years past, the e-card was accompanied by a beautiful photo taken by Jenna King. Now that Stack's has become a conglomerate, I feared two things. The first is that holiday cards, even e-cards, would be deemed too much of a bother for those other than the biggest of the big fish. The second is that they would include a picture of a quintissential New York City holiday scene, such as a bum sleeping on the sidewalk dressed in a Santa outfit, or a hooker in Times Square holding a piece of mistletoe (those NYC comments are a little facetious, because that lunatic Guiliani ruined the character of the City by eliminating such ambiance; Longacre even had the pleasure of getting "mugged" at 2 AM in Times Square as a college freshman. I used the word mugged in quotes because my friends and I willingly gave $80 each to Roger, who offered to broker a deal to get us fake IDs. Roger then quickly melted into the crowd. We still laugh about it today .
Anyway, I reproduce the wonderful picture below:

What were they trying to signify by the photo?
I think Jenna is trying to capture the feeling of how damn cold it is in Wolfeboro this time of year. Those footprints in the snow are Frank's as he is running from his car to the office.
Longacre, were you and your friends trying to buy fake IDs so that you could vote?

Glad you enjoyed the card and Jenna's photography.

Those of us who grew up and/or lived in the North -- and later moved south -- always appreciate a beautiful winter scene that evokes the charm of .... oh, who am I kidding. It's nice to visit, but I prefer the warm weather now!
My parents visited the Big Apple in the early 1980s and one of the most interesting pictures they
took was of a bum sleeping on the sidewalk near Madison Square Garden. Those kinds of pictures
better capture the flavor of a city than the typical tourist oriented stuff.

Please post that picture. I want to see what Longacre looked like in the early 80's.
The old card of the ANR staff standing by the dock was nice 'cause you could identify the folks you'd been talking on the phone with.
The 2006 Stack's card should have shown everyone wearing Harvey's beard as the flipped a 1913 Liberty nickel to see who was buying the eggnog.
<< <i>I really expected a phot of the ex-ANR cataloging staff making "Snow Angels" as they tossed stellas back and forth.
