What are the top five rivalries in sports right now?

I'm sure everyone will have a different list, but what are the best natural rivalries on sports right now? Yankees/Red Sox has to be at the top of the list, but what other ones have that much intensity? Duke/NC? Are there any hockey rivalries left that are that intense? Basketball? Let's hear your picks. Any sport. Any natural rivalry.

Mine:

1. Yankees/Red Sox
2. Eagles/Cowboys
3. Duke/North Carolina Mens basketball
4. University of Florida/Florida State college football
5. University of South Carolina/Clemson (but only because I witnessed it this year--it's bigger than people think)
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

  • Not a huge college football fan but isn't Ohio State vs Michigan a big rivalry ?

    Dave
  • Eagels/Cowboys???

Try Redskins/Cowboys. This has been one of, if not the, biggest rivalries in football for over 30 years now.

The rivalry I miss the most which was for a long time at the very top of the list was the Rangers/Islanders. From the late 70's/early 80's till around the mid to late 90's there was nothing like it.

As for today, Yankees/Red Sox has to be one of the top 2 or 3. I also agree with the OSU/Michigan.

Its a shame, but with in todays pro football game there doesnt seem to be anything like there once was. Salary caps and league parody have removed the glory days of NFL rivalries greatly.

The NBA, forget about it. There doesnt seem to be anything close to days of past like we had with the Lakers/Celtics. If both teams can improve a bit more the Bulls/Cavs could be a great rivalry in years to come.

  • Greatest rivalry of all-time (well, to many of us Habs fans up in Canada), was the Habs and Nords. They played some unbelievable games in the short time the Nords were in the NHL.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I wouldn't say they're top 5, but I think the Cubs/White Sox deserve honorable mention.

I remember when the Marlins were playing the Cubs in the NLCS a few years ago, bars that catered to White Sox fans were giving out free drinks whenever a Marlin hit a home run.

When talking sports I think I have to agree with Army/Navy and Harvard/Yale. All those players are playing for only two things. Their love of their sport and school. I am sure you can count on one hand the total number of players from those schools that think that they have a decent chance at the pros.
