1940 Play Ball Set Complete

After nearly 2 years since I bought Sgt. Jim's overflow set, I have completed the set again (found a better Shoeless Joe card). I am constantly searching for upgrades and would someday like a PSA 8 set. Do not know when I will catch the top spot in the registry -- that spot seems to change hands every so often and is currently occupied by Mr. Spence who has upgraded Mr. Carlen's set since purchasing it a year or so ago.

Not a lot of cards graded from this set so improvements are slow right now. Keep me in mind for your 8's.

As a Phillies fan, I am also #1 on the Steve Carlton Basic Set, and am in search of a 1967 Topps Steve Carlton in PSA 9 (has been very difficult to find). I am close to adding a PSA 10 rookie to this great set.

Congrats on finishing off a tough and beautiful vintage set!

Surprised you weren't bidding more strongly on the 1976 Carlton PSA 10 that sold yesterday...
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Browntoni,

Congratulations on the very tough set. I'm also collecting the set, and I know that we have collided on bidding in the past. If I saw you needed a card or saw you had a bid on a card, I usually tried to stay clear and not bid. So I'm glad you were able to finish the set off. Does that mean now I'll have an easier task of finishing my set?

    Looking for:
    1953 Topps in PSA 8
    1941 Playball in PSA 8.
1952-1955 Red Man cards in 7 and 8
    1950 Bowman in PSA 8

    Browntoni,

    Congrats on a fine accomplishment.

"Do not know when I will catch the top spot in the registry". Pretty ambitious to predict passing Don Spence(although you hedged on timetable). You must be planning on laying down some serious money on this set.

Great job - that's a fine set and one to be proud of. Fortunately, you posted no scans and I ain't going looking, so you won't have to battle me for cards.

Great job. I'm grinding the the '41s and I can't even get to 72, let alone 240. Well done.
  • Hard to believe that I did not see the Carlton!!!! Too busy at year end.
