$60,000 for a two year old card

HOLY CRAP!!

I'm not really familiar with the Exquiste line of cards, but can anyone tell me if these sort of transactions are done between dealers or are there actual speculators/collectors out there who drop $10,000 for a Lebron Exquisite rookie? Because the only times I've ever seen the cards at shows, they're usually being sold by the same few asian dealers.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

    Matt,

Just think how bad UD QC is. These packs go for hunderds a pack and they cant even put a card in them in good shape. I dont whoever opened it droped the pack after they forked over the $$$.

I have some Favre Patches from last years FB that have some of the same issues. I am glad I bought them on Ebay and didnt spend the cash to buy a pack and get such crap out of it for the price.

Just think if you bought a nice BMW/Mercedes/Audi/etc. They give drive the car up to the front and there are dents and scratches on it. And thats it. Its yours just like that.

  • Check out the buyer's feedback and buying history--he's totally only into "Exquisite" cards and doesn't seem to have any problem paying $200, $3,000, or (as the MJ/Lebron shows) $60,000.

I wonder if it's Keith Olbermann. Hehe.
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

Not to rag on modern collectors but how does this make any sense?

Both players are alive and well. Both players will be signing for years to come, with or without patches/uniforms/betting slips.

What prevents UD from producing hundreds of these "1/1"s every year with only a slight variation between each?

Maybe it's just me but I don't get it..
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

  • This is actually the second time that card has been sold it sold for 62,000 back when it was new. I remeber because a guy where i live pulled it. It was all over the newspaper for a couple days and again when it sold on ebay back then for 62,000. So it looks like somebody took a loss on it this timeimage
  • That's "RETARDED"

But I've done many things that would be condidered "RETARDED", so whatever.

How much would a fully authenticated PSA/DNA game worn autographed jersey of each run? I don't know, but if it is less than the price of this card, then what is the point of purchasing? Not that I understand anyway, and I selectively purchase a few modern cards for my football collection.
  • well i would keep one set of the 52's and give the other to a charity to sell..lol i mean or buy one set for like $25,000 and a nice card for the rest of the money...lol..or wait a great $60,000 down payment on a new home i mean come on think of it...lol

Was this the card that was pulled in Fresno, California a few years back? That is where I live and I remember a basketball card being pulled and I think this was it.

I was thinking the exact same thing.. I've noticed how the kiddies on the beckett boards don't give a crap about the condition of the cards they pull.. strange.

    What makes this even crazier....

Michael Jordan 1985 Rookie Game Used & Autographed Shoes - $9,952.25

LeBron James 2003-04 Game Used Rookie Road Jersey - $1,563.93

Call me crazy but with sixty grand I would rather have both of those and wear them while driving a BMW M3.

Above prices were taken from the past vintage authentics auction.

I think the people who bid on this card have no idea what a vintage authentics auction is to be honest... ouch

Did they use 14k gold in the ink too??
  • The sad part about this is the buyer could of had Jordan and James rookie cards in PSA 10 plus both their Autographs on uniform swatch cards also in PSA 10 and throw in a PSA 8 1948 Bowman Mikan and a PSA 8 1957 Topps Bill Russell and a PSA 8 1961 Fleer Chamberlain and still had about 30,000 left to spend on a very nice set of wheels. As others have pointed out what will this card possibly be worth in about 10 years? $6,000 or so. and if graded perhaps a PSA 5 or 6. Well as PT Barnum stated "There's a sucker born every minute".
